I don't get why everyone thinks being a first lady gives anyone experience, except in a social way. I mean would we say Laura Bush has the experience to be President or Nancy Reagan or Rosalyn Carter or Barbara Bush?

On the other hand Joe Biden has been a senator for ages, and is an acknowledged expert in foreign policy. I say if the Des Moines Register really wanted experience they should have gone with Biden.

1. I first supported Richardson because of experience
then he made some major mistakes

experience can only get you so far

2. The Congress is not about merit in its assignments of committee positions

The older you are the more prestigious the committees you get to sit on.

Why is that such an admirable thing? It discourages turnover in office.

Seniority is automatically seen as evidence of innate superiority?

3. I agree. I think people are caught up in the 1st woman/1st Black...
to be elected as though that's what the race is about. Which is it going to be? First woman or first Black? Get your heads on straight, people, and check out the resumes. (Where's one of those little e things when you need it?)

They are all good people, but we are in serious trouble and need someone who's going to be more concerned about what he knows has to be done, than what furniture he wants in his oval office.

Sorry! Just a little impatient with all the theatrics.

Back to my corner.

4. I would have no problems with a Biden presidency.
I like him better than the first woman and the first black.

You are so correct that we are in serious trouble in just about every arena thanks to Bush in large part.

I simply don't see either Clinton or Obama having the experience or guts to do what has to be done. I see both of them as beholden to corporate cronies.

Even though Biden is a friend of the banks in Delaware, I think that he will act in the best interests of the country as a whole.

My first choice is Edwards, but Biden is a solid #2.

Maybe I'm just too old to get wound up in celebrity.

7. We fogeys have to stick together around here!
I think that the average age is 19.

What does that say about us?

11. I actually thought the Des Moines Register would endorse Biden for that reason
if you want experience Biden is the guy. Sen. Clinton has seven years in Senate, not bad, but doesn't compare with Biden's experience.

12. I agree
I'm not sure how everyone can keep buying the Clinton experience meme. I can't really see that being First Lady is much of an example of experience.

Biden has experience. And he's done well in the debates, and looked good in the few campaign stops I've caught on CSPAN. He sounds like he knows the issues inside and out. Richardson and Dodd also have the experience, but haven't stood out in the debates, IMO. Richardson has been pretty awful in the debates, actually. (my opinion, yours may differ)
