It's snowing......Global Warming is clearly a hoax! .....
.... I actually heard someone say something to that effect this morning on my mad dash out to the supermarket as the snow piles up in the Detroit area.
Never mind that our winters have been getting progressively warmer (It was 60ish last Christmas) and shorter. Big-picture thinking is not the strong suit of right-wing Koolaid drinkers, apparently.

:dunce:

4. Framing, Framing, Framing! We must say climate change!
Whoever made the phrase "global warming" the standard description of this? We all must get used to calling it global climate change. It may be snowy and cold in the Midwest just now, but in the arctic regions the ice is melting. It's a global change.

Global climate change. Global climate change. Global climate change.

10. the problem with that is that it doesn't sound ominous enough.
after all, change happens all the time- change is good. "change" seems to mean that it is something that we can adapt to.

global warming is what it is.

but it doesn't really matter WHAT we call it- because we've probably already passed the tipping point, and even if we haven't- nothing much is going to change until we do, and the really cataclysmic shit starts happening. and by then it will definitely be too late to decide to enact meaningful change- if it isn't already.

11. Good point. Likewise, "reform" for something bad drives me crazy
Like the "bankruptcy reform act." How about climate deviation? Mutation? Those don't seem any better, really. Maybe distortion.

The reality of "global warming" is just too easy to dismiss with the first cold snap and snow storm, as my right-wing neighbor did today. Clueless residents of the northern states might even think global warming is a good thing (less snow shoveling! Sounds good about now).

No matter how long we wait, waiting longer will be worse. It's like turning a battleship to change the habits of a comfortable life, but I think there has been some progress lately.

13. we've already lost the war
all the experts are saying that even if human carbon output went to ZERO tomorrow- the earth's atmosphere would keep warming for the next 4 decades. and we're Not going to go to zero. ever. china has plans and is continuing to bring one new coal-fired electric generating plant online every week for the next couple decades.

our "leaders" don't have the political will, common decency, or plain old GUTS to write and/or pass the needed legislation to bring this country into line- so don't expect any action on the part of the u.s. until wall st. is swallowed by the sea.

And, I was out this morning with ice pellets raining down on my face.

Gore clearly is a liar & a attention hound.

Snow & ice don't happen when its WARM Mr. Gore....

8. Climate changes...
The last ice age ended about 10,000 years ago. We are still in a warming phase.

Is mankind responsible for this current climate change? Obviously we are contributing. But our influence is merely one of the many factors involved.

But while I don't completely buy into the Al Gore Theory of Impending Doom, I do think we need to come up with new energy sources to reduced our dependency on fossil fuels. We need to stop throwing tons of pollution into the atmosphere, if no no other reason than it stinks and probably is killing us. We need to increase fuel mileage because gas is too damned expensive and we are giving money to countries that may use it to develop or purchase weapons to use against us. We need to find ways to live with nature, rather than attempting to destroy it.

We need to elect people who will talk less and do more. All the hot air they generate has become as big a problem as farting cows.

Well I think I take a break and watch some football and drink some beer. It's really snowing in Pittsburgh, where the Steelers are playing Jacksonville. Climate change has really messed up the weather for Steelers home games this season. If it isn't torrential rain it's snow, wind and ice.
