....who could cancel out the grim spectre of Joe Lieberman right about now.

Just our luck that the most recognizably Jewish person in Congress is also the slimiest, right?

ON EDIT: Thanks everybody. For some reason, I was blanking on all Feingold, Levin, Waxman, et al...

23. I think not as is evidenced by some of the turncoats we see.
Edited on Sun Dec-16-07 04:35 PM by FREEWILL56
They are really siding with the far-right wingnuts and are simply dinos. All one has to do is see the way they have been voting to know who they are. 1 imho even has the nerve to go on an empty presidential run flying on poor mes and the coattails of another president. So to state any Dem is 'better than' is simply not true as there are still many that are equals to LIEberman acting against the Democratic ideals of not only the party, but of the country as well. I think we could use a sign here saying something like, "Please don't feed the Dinos" right beside the one that says to "Beware of the poisonous republican snakebite".

27. Bicoastal, don't feel bad. I still remember how happy I was in August 2000
when they announced that Joe Lieberman would be the VP choice to run with Al Gore!

It was 6 AM Pacific Time, I was working out on the treadmill at one of the motels in Federal Way, Washington. I ran back to our room and woke my husband to tell him of the good fortune -- a conservative, observant Jew was going to have a try on the ticket. There were so many positives that we were blinded to everything else.

Boy, were we ever wrong on all scores. I've lived to see the day when I am thoroughly disgusted with the man both personally and professionally.

McCain? Yes, we got on his bandwagon briefly and sent him some contributions.

I regret that, too, and it way too long after Yom Kippur to repent!

Have a wonderful holiday season,

Radio Lady (and Audio Al) on vacation in Florida

Edited on Mon Dec-17-07 09:38 PM by FREEWILL56
He had picked him as vp and if he could do it again by going back in time, would he have said yuk and picked somebody else? I didn't know much about LIEberman even far after the shrub stole the presidency until a fellow Dem on another forum from his state started informing about how the guy was/is. It wasn't long afterwards that the Democratic party there ousted him from being a nominee and he went independent and got it with the help of his republican and dino friends it seems.

38. Look, at one time he was chiefly known as the first Jew ever to appear on a major party ticket
As some else already mentioned, despite his conservative outlook, we were rather proud of him back then for that reason.

This whole betrayal has been infuriating for all Democrats, but even moreso for Jewish Democrats, who are reminded of his background every time he mentions Israel and bombing Iran in the same sentence.

No, of course he doesn't "represent" Judaism, but he does reflect badly on us somehow.

I DO NOT WANT TO EVEN KNOW WHAT FAITH THEY ARE (OR AREN'T)

They are supposed to be there doing the work of EVERYONE, regardless of who they pray to..

It's absolutely INSANE to always be focusing on their religion..This used to the the USA, where all were welcome and all were equal (since the 1960's at least)..

34. And no Black and Asian and Latino recognition either?
The tricky thing about Judaism is it's a religous AND an ethnic group. If your mother is a member of the tribe, you are too. Plus, there's that whole "centuries of isolation" thing, which preserves a sort of genetic connection--all in all, it's a little different than politicians who wear their religions on their sleeve.

39. So no politician should take ANY pride in their cultural background or heritage?
I'm sorry, but that's too far in the extreme. Our elected officials should be allowed to celebrate who they are and where they came from, same as everyone else. That's the American way, last time I checked.
