ROCKLAND — Concerned about the safety of students, the School Administrative District 5 board held off approval of a proposed trip by a group of high school youths who want to rebuild homes in hurricane-ravaged New Orleans.

Three students and a teacher at Rockland District High School made a presentation Thursday night to the SAD 5 board.

"I admire your spirit but I have concerns," said board member Jennifer Daniels of Rockland. She cited the high murder rate in New Orleans, the lack of emergency services, and diseases.

"I can't say I support sending students to a war zone," Daniels said.

2. I'm planning on attending the AVMA Convention in NOLA next July.
I am budgeting enough time there to get some volunteering done. The AVMA is even organizing work opportunities as part of the "recreational" activities at the conference.

And no, I'm not afraid to go or do this.

6. Told ya...
...though it should be obvious who fed it to my other go-to blogger, just back from a teaching assignment in the Middle East.

8. Oh dear.
I see they've posted the demographics of the town there. That actually made me laugh in that it was so unnecessary. Some things just go without saying. :D
