Apology
Edited on Tue Dec-18-07 07:00 PM by greenbriar
Dear Mythsage,

and DUers

I am truly sorry I did not credit you for the post I posted. I truly thought the sentiments reflected the world today, I had it saved in my documents and neglected to put the author when I saved it. The other night I was cleaning out my documents and came across it and thought it needed to be stated again. I never meant to give the impression that I wrote it only that I had saved it. I should have stated so in my begining post. > > I can not sleep and I search for great posts relevant to the climate of the nation and save them and I know now in the future, to ALWAYS be sure to put the author when I save. > > I was not intending to get credit for the writing, I only wanted to outrage the midst for activation becasue if we do not, we will lose.> > Please accept my apology. I can promise in the future, IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN EVER AGAIN.

I will take what ever comes my way.

Greenbriar

2. Did someone give you grief for this?
Honestly... the Internets are getting curiouser and curiouser.

I see people using my posts all the time, and I'm notorious for using my boyfriend's stuff.

It's not like it's IRL or anything.

8. I'm a professional writer.
My name is a Brand. I give permission for reposts all the time, given the proper attribution. Plagarism is against DU rules for good reason. I appreciate that it wasn't done intentionally and have accepted her apology.

But make no mistake. Blatant, unapologetic plagarism remains a no-no. With good reason.

And, as I've said a million times since getting on-line. This IS "IRL." The other people out here are REAL people, with REAL feelings. Thinking that they're not leads to some very bad behavior and should always be discouraged.

10. I'm not a professional writer
and others have posted some of my stuff elsewhere and graciously asked first and given full attribution. Just a little effort.

14. I am as well
But on the Internets, I feel I'm just another Jane Doe, and I never, ever put anything out here that I wouldn't want to get around. Wouldn't be prudent. There's no guarantee any of our work will stay where it is placed by the author, none at all. And I feel it is fantasy to think it will.

I guess I just don't take cyberspace as seriously as some. I certainly wouldn't put anything on DU or on any other public message board that I felt I needed to protect so vehemently.

15. I'm not a John Doe out here.
I'm not anonymous in the least. I see no reason to be. Therefore, what I write is, by rights, mine. If some of it squirms away, well, the message is the most important thing. But that doesn't mean I won't defend my brand when necessary.

16. Whatever floats your boat...
I would never go public on a message board such as this. To each his or her own, I guess.

When I was acting on stage, I frowned on film. Now that I'm curious and I'm watching the films from the era I missed, I realized I missed nothing at all.

I guess I don't feel I'm missing anything by being "me" on the Internets. If I needed the adulation, I'd go back to musical theatre. Nothing like sharing space and oxygen with an applauding audience. There's no way the Internets can come close, IMHO.

19. I guess I'm a little more reserved
I think you should revisit the definition of "pretensions" (and the spelling... and the proper usage of ellipsis) in light of your desire to be posted on Wikipedia. As I said, I guess I'm a little more reserved, and a little more traditional in my thoughts on writing. Outside of arguing politics and getting the latest news, I don't see the public Internets as a place I want to be associated. If I wanted to start my own site, with my own writings and photography, and had the whole deal locked-down so no one could copy anything, that might be different. But public displays seem like a waste.

20. Oh...you're right.
There's a difference between pretense and pretentiousness. I tried both ways and couldn't remember which way was the right one.

I don't care for either, regardless.

I feel no shame for being involved in DU, or posting anywhere else in the liberal blogosphere, and suffer no need to hide my face. Why should I?

3. I believe your responses in that thread are not quite consistent
Edited on Tue Dec-18-07 06:57 PM by Occam Bandage
with "I never meant to give the impression that I wrote it," especially as people were complimenting you on your writing, and you were accepting their compliments. I also believe you are sincere in your apology. But it is not mine to accept or reject this apology, only to hope that we can get past this soon.

4. sorry, was not accepting compliments on writing. I was focused on the outrage
and the lies that this horrible administatration has done over and over and over

I was wrong and should have stated that I had this saved and didn't knwo who had written it, then the rightful owner could have gotten the praise.

I haven't been that lapse before and will not be again

6. I have to say I hae to agree with Occam on this
It did seem like you were taking credit for it or at least accepting a lot of praise for it. A simple "thanks, but I didn't actually write it" would have saved a lot of pain.

I don't know you but I thought it was odd that you would do something like that.

24. Wow.
Saw you posting after the ban, wondered what was up, found this.

Like a few others have said, it pretty much seemed to me you were claiming authorship, especially when you thanked others for their praise, gave permission for others to use it as they needed, and said you were going to send it to a newspaper.

But if Mythsaje forgives you, why shouldnt everybody else? Mythsaje, more important than being a good writer, youre a good person.
