I'm here to tell you
Edited on Wed Dec-19-07 08:30 PM by MichaelHarris
Huckabee and his people are downright liars. I can't believe they denied this. I am a photographer, I have been a photographer on and off for years. I know how to light a scene, I've lit many of them. For them to say the bookshelf cross was unintended is a flat-out lie. A high soft key light is above and to the right of the Huckster, a reflector is to the left. A fill light was probably used from the front. Now for the kicker, a bright spot was used to illuminate that exact corner of the bookshelf, a spot that is stronger than the one used on the Huckster. Huckster indeed!

8. I just saw it
for the first time today. I can't believe they would deny that it was done on purpose. There is no way in hell that was an accident, no way. A spot was aimed directly at that corner. Republicans kill me man, They could be sitting next to an anteater and tell you there is no anteater here.

9. Thanks Mike
I just saw it for the first time and was shocked they would deny that. I mean the have a spot aimed at that exact corner that doesn't change as the camera pans.

12. Yes, it's not possible to have something like that in the frame
by accident.

You know how intricate the editing process is. You stare and stare at frames--frame by frame--it's impossible to miss something like that.

as the camera pans left the lighting on the "cross" stays just as bright. No shadowing of the edges like you would expect.

21. Way too Bright

Even if a fill was used in the background (placed behind the tree) it normally wouldn't be a 1:1 ratio to the subject.

13. I agree with that...
I've never seen anything quite so blatant. First the cross, THEN the secular Christmas tree, adding emphasis to his "birth of Christ" message.

30. Thank you for the link! .... Had no idea what you were all talkin' about ---
Presume it is the "cross" formed by the bookcase . . .
Yes, as the camera continues to move you can see that they highlighted that --- maybe even
in a retouching after the film was made.

I'm not a photographer and I can see that ---
On the left wing of the "cross," if you watch, you will see that they didn't "highlight" it all the
way to the end.

So -- what we're saying is Huck is trying to present himself as "god's" chosen?
And that he's trying to propagandize idiots believers who will vote for him because he has a "cross" on his bookcase!!! I don't know if that's going to get him as far as his face on a taco ---
but obviously he doesn't have much faith in his own faith!!!

And, today, religious fanatacism ends up in the White House --- !!!

When someone said "But I own a Leica", it was supposed to be an argument ender.

I don't doubt your skill or experience. Indeed, I envy them.

I only wish I had one of my own. They're fine machines.

for a while the prices were dropping. Some of the older screw mount bodies have really come down in price. When you decide look for a IIIf or even a pre-war IIIa.

I'd jump right on that. <sigh>

There's nothing digital (yet) that beats my Bronica 6X4.5. And there will be nothing in the near future that beats my 4X5 shots.

Still, I hope to have a decent digital setup one of these days.

I love the Bronica. I have one of those Bronica Rf545. I'm taking one of my 4x5s to Montana this summer to a week-long class on silver printing. I develop all my own film, color and B&W but my printing kind of sucks.

29. We used Sinar 4X5's at school
With Linhof lenses.

But I could only consider buying the 'Horseman' knock-offs.

I never did get one, but I shot a friend's wedding with a Sinar and they remain some of my greatest non-assignment works ever.

25. I was going to disagree with you
...after only having seen a still frame of the scene in question.

But after seeing the ad on Youtube, I have to agree with you. There has been some post-production work to obscure and darken the area just to the camera left of Huckelberry Christ' head (and thereby bring out the "cross" effect). That work is done so dramatically that it w/o question turns the bookshelf into an image of a cross (which might not have been so obvious if the bookshelf had been allowed to reveal itself with other propping and, as constructed, butting up to the fireplace).

Damned handsome pic of a damned handsome camera Michael Harris.

36. Reminded me of Bush's pulpit/podium at the Republican Convention. Why do they bother to lie about it?
Why do they bother to lie about it, is what I want to know. They're pandering to fellow Christians at every turn -- aren't they proud of themselves? They display all kinds of intolerant behavior supposedly in the name of religious morality -- why lie about the display of the very symbol of their religion?

Thou shalt not lie, fellas. :eyes:
