Man called 911 for seizure, was hit by stun gun, files suit (actually a TASER)

But the response the 52-year-old diabetic from Waxahachie received one morning this April was humiliating, discriminatory because of his race and excessive, the man's attorney said.

His attorney, Rodney Ramsey, filed a federal lawsuit against the city, the police department and the officers on Mr. Nelms' behalf. No trial date has been set.

The court filing claims that police entered the home in the 700 block of Perry Street in Waxahachie without a search warrant, twice shocked Mr. Nelms with a stun gun, laughed at him and left him on a bedroom floor.

"I have a problem with the fact that you can kick people's doors down without warrant, Tase them, abuse them, laugh about it and leave," Mr. Ramsey said.

***************** The suit states that numerous calls for emergency service have been made from the home in the last 10 years. City officials denied an open records request for details of those calls. An appeal to the Texas attorney general's office is pending.***********************************

2. Texas, Texas, Texas ...
Somedays, I am of the belief, if you want to know where America going, just take a long look at Texas.

6. How?
I was marooned there for 10 years, 1985 to 1995, and I don't see anything different from when I lived there.

HOW will they surprise us, except to show us how bad it can get?

17. Yup, that's the only way the last five years of my two decade plus sentence in that state
was liveable. But it was claustrophobic, not feeling like I could leave the city limits because of how heinous the rest of the state is/was. Living five miles away from Molly Ivins and knowing that we still had Ann Richards (until we didn't have either) also helped, some.

and worst weeks of my life.

edit: Have to add that 6th Street in Austin is awesome. But you can't spend day and night in the bars.

16. I just escaped from Texas
after 22 years in that hellhole cesspool of uselessness. If that's where we're going, I'm glad I now live close enough to the Canadian border to nip over there.

19. Do you think this only happens in Texas?
Things to remember about Texas:

*Bill Moyers

*Ann Richards

*Molly Ivins

*Janis Joplin

*Jim Hightower

4. I called 911 when my mom went into diabetic shock
told them she was having altered mental status and they wanted to know if I wanted an ambulance or the police. WTF? Scary thing is that she had actually gone into diabetic shock previously while driving and had been pulled over by the cops -- this makes me think that had she not been an old white lady they probably would have pulled their guns on her instead of assuming (correctly) that there was a medical problem and had they arrested her instead of calling the paramedics she very well could have gone into a diabetic coma. What a fucking world.

You didn't think they just DISAPPEARED, now did you?

8. I've pretty much had it with the new cop toy.
They don't use it as it was meant to be used. I hope this poor guy gets mountains of money. Sadly, money is the only voice that has an impact.

14. I like your flag, though I prefer my New Flag of Imperial Amerika to be a bit more understated
A testament to the "kinder and gentler" camoflauge Bushevism uses to give them the plausible deniability of "there are several clear differences between us and the Nazis" that works so damned well on our fellow Imperial Subjects of Amerika.

A triumph of framing, as the real question is not whether there are still several clear differences between us and the Nazis, but the mounting dozens of similarities between us and the Nazis (the Bushies as Nazis and the 'us' as Good Germans).

Anyway, I can only describe my flag because I have never found a pciture of one. It is the same as the flag of the Old American Republic, indicating the remaining surface similiarities between ourselves now under Bushie rule and reprogrammed by the "New Pearl Harbor" of 9/11 and the subsequent Bushie Anthrax Attack on America that followed to sort of cement the work done by the Bushfriends on 9/11.

The only difference: the field of blue is now a field of black.

Have you ever seen such a flag and if so, could you post a link to it?

13. There are too many stories of cops tasering people without a valid reason.
They are abusing this new weapon and it needs to be controlled. This is nuts.

20. cops are going out of control with the tazers
I've started reading "The Shock Doctirin" by Naomi Klein, and I think the issue goes further than just some tazer-happy cops. I think they are conditioning us to accept this kind of "non-lethal" abuse from police. When a simple disagreement with a cop gives them a green-light to tazer you, it's a bad thing. What's next, cattle prods?
