Edwards Says He'll Take On Big Insurance Companies
Posted by Aaron Lewis| 1

(CBS)From CBS News' Aaron Lewis:

NEVADA, IOWA -- John Edwards tonight cited the case of a 17-year-old California girl who died after her insurance company refused coverage on a liver transplant to save her life as a call to action to change the current system of healthcare in America.

.............................

"Are you telling me that we're gonna sit at a table and negotiate with those people?" asked a visibly angered Edwards, challenging the health care companies. "We're gonna take their power away and we're not gonna have this kind of problem again."

Edwards also told the audience of about a hundred people at the Score Pavillion in Nevada, Iowa, that it will take a fighter (i.e. him) - and not a negotiator (ii.e. Obama) - to take on large insurance companies like CIGNA.

"Anybody who thinks that we don't have a fight in front of us is living in Never-Never Land," he said.

1. Where was this rhetoric during the VP debate with the devil? I think its
great but he might be in the WH today if he (and Kerry) spoke out against the evil duo during the debates.

5. He more than likely had to tout whatever John Kerry wanted him to.
Not being at the top of the ticket does have its drawbacks. JK was pulling the strings in '04. Not John Edwards.

7. I watched the debate between him and the devil
while sitting in the Kerry headquarters in Seattle. He actually kicked ass. They aren't in the White House because Ohio, among others, was stolen.

10. I watched the debate too. I certainly would not say he kicked ass. Ohio
was stolen. But they may have been able to pick up a couple other states if Kerry and Edwards had a better strategy for attacking the the evil duo.

Bottom line - I feel like they were to nice and too polite to a mis-administration composed chiefly of incompetent political hacks led by a moron. Trotting out facts, figures and window dressing is nice for demonstrating competence to people who are informed about the issues, but it won't convince those who vote based on who can win a knock down drag out brawl.

20. Then how can you blame Edwards for not
saying the right things during the debates? If they stole the election nothing said during the debates would have stopped that.

Hope he actually does them. (Not saying he won't, just saying I am jaded in general.... ;) )

8. I'm not at all surprised at his reaction.
Edwards won't play footsie with the insurance companies. We can count on that.

11. John Edwards vs. The Corporation !
Edited on Sat Dec-22-07 01:02 PM by EVDebs
An eternal 'person' with pathological personality traits, The Corporation movie shows us that they'll do anything to retain power over real people with limited lifespans

http://www.thecorporation.com/index.cfm?page_id=312

"To assess the "personality" of the corporate "person," a checklist is employed, using diagnostic criteria of the World Health Organization and the standard diagnostic tool of psychiatrists and psychologists. The operational principles of the corporation give it a highly anti-social "personality": it is self-interested, inherently amoral, callous and deceitful; it breaches social and legal standards to get its way; it does not suffer from guilt, yet it can mimic the human qualities of empathy, caring and altruism. Four case studies, drawn from a universe of corporate activity, clearly demonstrate harm to workers, human health, animals and the biosphere. Concluding this point-by-point analysis, a disturbing diagnosis is delivered: the institutional embodiment of laissez-faire capitalism fully meets the diagnostic criteria of a "psychopath.""

Edwards and DK have spoken up but only Edwards has a real shot at the Oval Office (since he hasn't mentioned UFOs). The real smearing will come later by the M$M toadies, but as long as Edwards stays 'on point' with the essence of world corporate pathology, he is a WINNER. He's the populist in the line of William Jennings Bryan (IMHO) and is standing on the shoulders of giants.

They have to bring him down; WE can't let that happen.

BTW, the power to commit manslaughter and get away with it ?

CIGNA, In Switch, To Fund Transplant

Do you 'negotiate' with a company's doctors under oath to 'first do no harm' ? A day late and a life short.

16. After watching the 3 candidates talk for 6 months, I side with Edwards
He's the only one not listening to advisors and pundits, I like him, and I'm voting for him. He also admits mistakes, which I respect tremendously.
