Gallup: Americans Say They Will Vote for a Black or Woman -- But a Mormon? A 72-Year-Old?
Edited on Tue Feb-20-07 01:04 PM by CatWoman
NEW YORK A new Gallup survey confirms that Americans claim they will be willing to vote for a woman (read: Hillary Clinton) or a black (read: Barack Obama) for president next year. But they still raise questions about voting for a well-qualified Mormon (Mitt Romney) or 72-year-old (John McCain) or someone who has been divorced twice (Rudy Giuliani).

Surprisingly, nearly as many say they would vote for a homosexual (55%) as say they would vote for a 72-year-old (57%).

"While Americans overwhelmingly say they would vote for a black, woman, Catholic, or Hispanic president, they are less likely to say they would support a Mormon candidate, one who is 72 years old, or one who has been married three times," Gallup reported.

1. Wait till his religion hits S. C.
If Romney is even a small factor in the GOP race, he is going to come undone in South Carolina, when his religion runs up against the first mob of fundie wackos. I guarantee it.

9. While they're at it, they can remind everyone that John McCain adopted a black child
And about Rudy's affairs. I think that Sam Brownback's chances in South Carolina are looking pretty good.

Most censored: atheists.

6. After I posted, I figured it out. They're extrapolating that
atheists are the first to be condemned (according to the poll).

I'm not so sure that's what the poll says, but maybe.

8. It's apparently meant to be a subtitle ...
... indicating that FEWER people (45%) would be willing to vote for an 'atheist' than any of the other attributions, including a homosexual (55%).

I suppose a Pollyanna could call that 'progress' - but I wouldn't.

7. These polls are meaningless
Guess what? Unless one is a klansman, he is unlikely to answer affirmatively to the equivalent of "Are you a bigot?" in a poll.
