It's all right if you've had it up to here. With Republicans, with spineless appeasers, with the representatives of the well-heeled suits currently picking your pockets.
Yeah, it's okay to be pissed off. You should be.
Even at Christmas. Because while you're out scrounging for a deal at the local discount store, the people with their hands in the cookie jar are buying their kids Mercedes Benz's, or something hideously extravagant, and thinking nothing of it. While you're trying to pay for Christmas gifts, and then your rent or mortgage, and trying to keep the heat running...
...well, let's just say they have other priorities.
While you're juggling bills and paychecks, they're deciding whether to go to Nice or Hawaii. While you're cutting corners to make sure you have enough to buy gifts for everyone in your family who needs something, they're not thinking about your struggles at all. Because, frankly, the vast majority of them are morally and ethically constipated. They don't give a shit about anyone but themselves and their families.
Yeah, so pissed off is okay. Scrooge is an asshole. And the chances that the ghosts of past, present, and future are going to have any effect on him--especially since they're a delusion brought upon by imbibing too much high quality brandy the night before--are pretty damn slim.
It's okay to be pissed off that your job was outsourced. It's okay to be pissed off knowing your Unemployment is running out and you'll have to go out and get a job paying 60% of what you used to be making. Pissed off is righteous. Pissed off makes sense.
When you decide to try to eke by on just a LITTLE less gas for the next couple of weeks, so you can buy your kid that bike, it's okay to be pissed off at the oil companies and their administration and legislative enablers. The sycophants who make it all possible.
You know...the ones who probably aren't worrying about any such thing.
Pissed off?
Good.
You should be.
But leave it for the day after tomorrow. Go enjoy Christmas with your families. You've earned it. And so have they. Life's about more than just the bad things. It's about the good things too. And now is the time to reflect on the good things.
Happy Holidays. Now go hug your children, spouse, or anyone else you care about.
