My 51 year old uncle who has not served since the end of the 1st gulf war has been called back to active duty. Got the letter 2 days before x-mas. Family is dumbfounded.

Something is very wrong for them to call him back at this late date.

Also this happened to my family last year. He returned from Iraq in late October. My brother is a Navy officer, 42 years old. He had been retired for 10 years.

People need to know that this is happening. It's a horrible burden on these families.

Try to take a deep breath and remember most of them come home just fine. Prepare to send letters and goofy packages to help him through. Be there for your family. Support your Aunt and cousins.

There are a bunch of us on DU who have gone through this and if you need support don't be afraid to reach out. We understand what it is like to live with that fear.

He has been ordered to report. I don't think they have told him what he will be doing.

Stint as drill sergeant. It's tough thankless work, but it's also very important at the same time, and I'm under the impression most training from the "Smokey the Bear campaign hat boys" is done stateside. You know what I mean, Vern?
