Woot! Bush was criticized by comentators on public radio for saying "Democrat Majority"!
I was listening to Morning Edition and they pointed out *'s bad grammar when analyzing the SOTU address. That's the first time I remember the improper use of "Democrat" being pointed out in the MSM!

:wow:

1. They talked about it last night on MSNBC . They mentioned how

Bush was gracious at the beginning re Nancy and then blew any good will that may have made by then immediately saying "Democrat" Majority. They mentioned the reason - how the Republicans intend it as a perjoritive when they say it that way, etc.

6. It struck me that that was an extremely weasley thing to do
First he was all gracious and sentimental then he turns around and jabs with that usage. To me, it's more reprehensible because he set them up with the nice-nice first.

2. That is the moment I tuned out
I literally turned the channel and didn't come back until the end when it was time for Webb to give the response. It's a shame that Republicans think no one knows what they're doing when they use that insult.

3. It was done on NBC last night, too.
An interesting thing pointed out by Brian Williams was that the text that was handed out said "democratic" and Bush said democrat. The suggestion being that since Buch can't get past the petty name calling it calls into question his ability to work with the Democrats.

4. they mentioned it right afterwards on "Countball"...
I forget who it was, but the guest commentator (I want to say David Gregory, but I'm not sure) who was there with Matthews and Olbermann said that he had circled it in the speech--where it was in fact written "Democratic Majority"--and that he had joked with Matthews earlier that he wondered if Bush would actually say that. He went on to talk about "Democrat" in that context being rougher/sharper, etc.

MSNBC has really been improving; I think Keith's shown them that the future is with real journalism and not with Faux News (which CNN still thinks is the way to go....).

8. They also discussed it on MSNBC after he stopped blathering.
Wasn't EXACTLY a criticism, but an observation. However, they did mention that * didn't use the correct adjective, which could be seen as a dig on his stupidity. They then discussed how this practice originated during the Republic Revolution in the 1990's. Some Republic thought it would make the Democrats sound "harsh."

In other words, mispronounciations coming out of Republics' foul mouths will supposedly make up for all their foul deeds, and fool people into thinking the Dems "did it." :eyes:

10. It was (and always is) an intentional insult.
It's childish and stupid and the "Democratic" Congress needs to return the favor in a way that will sink in through that thick skull of his.

12. Chris Matthews was on TV last night after the speech
saying that if bush wants the Democrats to work with him he needs to give them the I and C, and call them the Democratic Party instead of the Democrat Party. It's just two little letters, he said.

14. Bush used it constantly in his campaign speeches and rallies throughout 2004 and
no media bothered to point it out. He did it again in the lead up to 2006. I think all the outraged emails people like us have sent over the last few years may have finally done some good - could also be that Dem party spokespeople finally called them out after all this time of letting it slide. In that case, thankyou Chairman Dean.

17. Democrats' Response is acceptable to me: a member of the Democratic Party is a Democrat.
There is no such thing as the Democrat Party. It is like saying "Republic Party." Until custom gets around for a name for the individual members of the Republican Party, other than rather stilted "Gopers'" or such noxious ilk, there is no other good choice, since the suffix on the root "Republican,"an" is used as an adjective a noun signifier. The suffix "ic" on "Democratic" is not used to denote a noun, only an adjective.

Why not shorten "republican" to its first element, "res," which means "thing" in Latin!
