Me, I'd pick my 76 year old mother. Life long Dem, Blue collar roots, remarkably practical, unbiased toward any group that you can think of. Listens and has much more kindness than opinion.

Plus, ther's been no person born on earth that could say no to her. :)

I mean people knock Obama for running for president in his first term in the Senate and seem to forget that Edwards did the same thing--and that he only served one term in the US Senate. In fact, Obama has had more experience in elective politics than Edwards if you include his state experience. So, I would say my top three picks for VP for Edwards would be (in no particular order):

Joe Biden
Wes Clark (a different type of experience than political, of course)
Bill Richardson

I would want him to specifically choose someone who has served in the military (I think both Biden and Dodd did, right? I'll research now).

I used to love Wes Clark but not as much now...not sure why.

I know I'll get flamed for this, but what the heck....

I used to like the John McCain of 2000. The true rebel. Like most, I've been repulsed by his blatant - beyond blatant - pandering since then. And, call me naive, but I believe in his heart of hearts he would do what's right for this country (NOT that I want him to be president, however).

And no, I don't agree with all of his policies (even the ones NOT tailored to play to the base), just as I don't agree with everything any other candidates believes or proposes.

I wouldn't mind seeing the OLD John McCain as VP - ONLY IF he came out and came clean about why he's been playing this crappy game the last few years and how much he holds Bushco responsible for the fragile state of our union.

I think someone like him turning around and speaking the truth, with he and JE both admitting they've been sucked into the political quagmire and now see the light, would be powerful for the vast majority of Americans. (JE essentially said this and I admire him tremendously for it when he explained his time in the Senate.)

And I DO want to appeal to the majority of Americans, even some who consider or previously considered themselves Republicans. It's the neocons that I see as the enemy, and I think many who used to consider themselves "republicans" do, too. They are the ones to be defeated and anyone who has aligned with them...and we all know that includes a shitload of people on both sides of the aisle.

He's said repeatedly that no way will he accept the VP position with anyone. He's made it quite clear that he'd prefer to finish his term as Governor. He passed up an almost sure shot for the U.S. Senate. I wouldn't be surprised if he's serious about not accepting the VP slot. That said, he'd be an excellent candidate for VP if he was interested.
