What other wealthy, private industry will be made "mandatory"?
Just curious since so many democrats now think mandatory health insurance with large private corporations is the greatest thing instead of single payer?

1. not sure about other plans
but Clinton's will allow you to opt into a government plan like Medicare.
If enough people do that...lol - it will be the slippery slope we want. :-)

4. I almost hate to repeat it and it is purely speculative
But it's what a lot of the right wingers say about Clinton's plan. Mandatory coverage will be such a disaster and will further ruin our economy that single payer will eventually be the only option that Americans can afford. As soon as it's made mandatory premiums and deductibles will rise and more benefits will be denied. Thousands of Americans are currently dying or are seriously ill because the insurance companies won't pay for needed surgeries or medications and that's people with insurance.

Nobody is listening to the medical community either. They are very much against this as they already have their hands tied and it's made so difficult to treat their patients and to collect payment from the current insurance carriers.

8. Have you read the Clinton plan?
I was skeptical before I actually read it.

11. Early on
And I'm sure that with all the different plans proposed, the actuals plans that get implemented if at all will be much different. Maybe the only thing we'll see for the next four years is arguing and showboating with health care and nothing getting done.

Just like with the war and social security correct?

2. Your employer can automatically enroll you in a 401k now
You have to opt out. Not saying they are necessarily bad things but financial services is a huge industry. Private accounts are quickly replacing defined pension plans to fund people's retirement. And don't think they aren't still trying to get their hands on our Social Security.

3. It's a matter of drawing the line
But I don't think mandatory health insurance would work. What about the poor who can't afford it? That wouldn't be a liberal solution to the problem.

7. Exactly
Purchasing insurance requires employment but even for those employed, look at your mandatory auto insurance. Prices keep rising, deductibles go higher and if you ever make a claim you are forced to have inferior repair work done by someone they approve of and then your rates increase even more. If you're not canceled.

I'm insurance poor already. I pay out more for insurance premiums in a month than what my salary was for a month 18 years ago.

12. And then if something happens it is just the beginning
If insurance just took care of whatever it is without a lot of fuss and bother, it would be worth it. But no, as soon as you have to make a claim, it is the beginning of a bureaucratic struggle to get them to pay off!

13. It's happened to me
The insurance company approved a minor surgery my oldest son had to have but after the surgery wouldn't pay the hospital for it so the hospital turned around and went after me for the money.

Same thing with a small accident that was determined to be 80% my fault. They agreed to pay the claim, waited until all the work was finished, then refused to pay both repair shops who in turn tried to sue me for the money.

Six months to straighten out the medical claim, over a year to straighten out the auto claim.

Mortgage holders, at least. Pretty hard to get out of it, if you own a home.
