OH SHIT: Pakistan: Al-Qaeda claims Bhutto's death
Pakistan: Al-Qaeda claims Bhutto's death

Karachi, 27 Dec. (AKI) - (by Syed Saleem Shahzad) - A spokesperson for the al-Qaeda terrorist network has claimed responsibility for the death on Thursday of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

“We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat mujahadeen,” Al-Qaeda’s commander and main spokesperson Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid told Adnkronos International (AKI) in a phone call from an unknown location, speaking in faltering English. Al-Yazid is the main al-Qaeda commander in Afghanistan.

It is believed that the decision to kill Bhutto, who is the leader of the opposition Pakistan People's Party (PPP), was made by al-Qaeda No. 2, the Egyptian doctor, Ayman al-Zawahiri in October.

Death squads were allegedly constituted for the mission and ultimately one cell comprising a defunct Lashkar-i-Jhangvi’s Punjabi volunteer succeeded in killing Bhutto.

6. Why wouldn't they claim it?
I mean a job like this is good PR whether they did it or not.

18. I really don't see how doing it OR claiming it supports their goals.
I'm not saying they didn't do it - not yet, anyway, - but I don't see any possible benefit for them.

28. Several ways
Bhutto was, like Musharref is, viewed as someone who accommodates the west too much. A hit on Bhutto would benefit AQ by:

1. Showing AQ is strong in Pakistan (their "flashiest" strikes are mostly for recruitment)
2. Showing Musharref is weak in Pakistan (he can't even protect an opposition leader from his own army)
3. Maintaining Musharref in power, which they want for much the same reason they want * to stay in power -- continued war.

29. Why does this not make sense
Do you think Bin Laden wanted her to live and be elected?

It makes perfect sense that she be a target for them. She was a target to alot of these extremist bastards.

33. why doesn't it make sense
They've tamed Musharraf, but Bhutto on the other hand was pro-west, anti-radical AND a woman.

36. LOL
I will not be played by these morons.

Still I expect the already dead Bin Laden to be dead before the November elections. This is their moment to increase numbers in Pakistan.

Did anyone else here that Specter met today with Pakistan's New Army Chief.

One more thing - did anyone else notice that the gun that killed Bhutto just happened to survive the bomb blast and just happened to be lying on the ground for the world to see. It did remind me of the passport after 9/11

Of course this was before Mushie men washed away the crime scene with fire truck hoses.

11. Six years of war have done NOTHING to weaken Al-Qaeda
If anything, it's only served to strengthen their resolve and help their recruiting.

16. I'm so selfish...
... that I'm just looking at Bhutto's killing from the perspective of how it's going to hurt me and mine. I've given up about worrying about the state of the world.

I'm concerned that now the RW in this country can beat the drums for more war. ("Those damned Al-Quieda killed our girl... we need to nuke Iran!)

That's the inference. Fascinating.

From an AQ point of view they're both apostates and accommodationists.

21. If Al Qaeda really made the hit .....

You can believe BushCo leaked info to them about Bhutto's vulnerabilities, travel plans, lodging, etc. BushCo has always seen war as good business .... as long as someone else's kids have to fight it.

30. Well, that settles it. It was a Bush Crime Family hit.
If their creation is "taking credit" for the job, it's only a matter of time before they spin this into something else. Can't see how they could possibly tie it to Iran, so the endgame must be a way of delivering Osama Bin Laden just in time for the 2008 Repuke convention, restoring Chimpy's "legacy" as the neocons claim a "victory" in the bullshit "war on terror" which they invented in the first place.
