Anyone taking bets that Bush will use this latest as evidence that the war on terror needs to continue and declare martial law.... you know screw the 08 elections he is staying in power

1. For that to work, it'd have to be a flase-flag operation on American soil....

People here in the States are too clueless about Pakistan for her death to make a real impact.

That an opposition candidate can get killed, and elections can be suspended without question.

6. Were you following the Pakistani elections at all?
Bhutto was not the "opposition" candidate.

In an interview in March 2007, Musharraf said that he intends to stay in the office for another five years.<66>

A nine-member panel of Supreme Court judges deliberated on six petitions (including Jamaat-e-Islami's, Pakistan's largest Islamic group) for disqualification of Musharraf as presidential candidate. Bhutto stated that her party may join other opposition groups, including Sharif's. Attorney-general Malik Mohammed Qayyum stated that, pendente lite, the Election Commission was "reluctant" to announce the schedule for the presidential vote. Bhutto's party Farhatullah Babar stated that the Constitution could bar Musharraf from being elected again because he holds the army chief's post. "As Gen. Musharraf is disqualified from contesting for President, he has prevailed upon the Election Commission to arbitrarily and illegally tamper with the Constitution of Pakistan."<67>

On September 24, 2007, the president of the Supreme Court bar association, Munir Malik, announced that former Supreme Court judge Wajihuddin Ahmed would challenge Musharraf in Pakistan's October presidential election. Ahmad had little chance of defeating Musharraf (since the president is elected by parliament and provincial assemblies). Also, 24 persons were detained due to protest outside the court in Islamabad.<68> On September 28, 2007, in a 6-3 vote, the court presided by Judge Rana Bhagwandas ruled: "These petitions are held to be non-maintainable." The judgment removed obstacles to Musharraf's election bid.<69>

5. Naw, he'll stage his very own "Event" in the U.S.
Gotta' have an "Event" or it's just no fun for the Costumer-In-Chief if he can't play dress-up for his photo-op! Besides, if it doesn't happen HERE, it just doesn't count for far too many folks.

9. Not a doubt in my mind that the BushCo Brain Trust has already had a sit-down

To come up with the best way to use the death of Bhutto to their best advantage.

Assuming of course they didn't do this before today. :eyes: :tinfoilhat:

17. After reading Naomi Wolf's book I am scared/paranoid whatever...
that we will always be in a war state (the End of America). I know it sounds crazy but I just don't see Bush letting the pesky constitution and laws keep him from his "legacy"
