Then we at DU can go back to being the intelligent, mature group of debaters that we were before all the campaigning started.

I don't remember the board being quite this ugly during the campaign 4 years ago......

I miss you guys!

2. Maybe because none of the potential nominees 4 years ago were nearly as bad
as the one the media, corporations, and DLC wish to coronate this time?

(Well, Lieberman was, but nobody really thought he was going to win)

10. Irony, thy name is...
As an undecided, I find it hilarious that you apparently skipped over the very first response. :)

To the OP, I too am ready for the nomination to be done with. :)

12. Selectively reproachful

I suppose it is easier to go after someone backing Kucinich than it is to look at your own excesses. I mean had you looked up only a little bit to the first person that posted you would note that it was a strange 'Hill-bot' squeeling about Obama. As if there really is a massive difference between Obama and Hillary anyhow.

Well we could also play a game of 'castigate the left' again if you like.

3. I wonder if admin/the mods will shut down anti-Democratic nominee threads...
...after the primaries. I hope they do because, at that point, such posts will be effectively indistinguishable from the posts of those who support the GOP. And, unless I'm mistaken, that's not allowed here.

4. Me, too. I miss reading icky things about republicans...
instead it's non-stop democratic attacks around here. I've been here since early 2001, and I swear it has never been this ugly. Usually there was a sense of community through all of it. I remember there being some ugliness 4 years ago, but not like this. there was always camraderie and HUMANITY through the forums at the same time.

sigh...

You and me both, sister...

Well, if nothing else we can go back to concentrating on the Bad Guys (the GOP) rather than attacking the Dem nominees whenever they don't match 100% of the expectation we place on them.

I imagine DU will lose about 15% of its most vocal (yet relatively recent  ) posters once the nomination is wrapped up. And that will be a good day!

7. Can we go home again?
I'm not sure the kind of rancor being displayed here is easily forgotten.

I, too, have been thinking about how truly ugly and hateful a vast number of posts are here lately. It seems people think that they need to hate the other candidates (no, not all the other candidates, just anyone who might be threatening to get more votes than their candidate at any given moment) in order to be true to their own. So utterly bitter and often illlogical vitriol is spewed daily. Obama and Clinton are the usual targets of this invective, but it goes further than that.

How do you heal from this kind of hatred?

I think it's okay to point out why you don't like a certain candidate, even if it's just that you don't like their personality or don't think they'd be a good leader, or drop reminders of inconsistencies on a candidate's part ... but to call people ugly names or build hysterical mountains over molehills or suggest illicit motives or verge on the racist or sexist goes way beyond what is healthy in political discussion.

It's making me think I want to give up following politics altogether ... and I've been doing it for a long, long, long time.

11. For what it's worth, I still say 2004 on DU was even worse.
The last week before Iowa was just disgusting on here, and it is this time too. So, how do you heal? I guess it's obvious. You do whatever we did in the last four years, because that seems to have worked pretty well. ... at least until the next presidential campaign, of course.
