The civil rights issue of this device is really easily overcome by someone...in the early stages of the diagnosis signing on to having this done.

I can't imagine anyone WANTING to die frightened, cold and alone.

3. with the consent of the patient? sounds waaaay intrusive

if the patient feels a compulsion to wander outside, and has advanced Alzheimer's to the point where they forget where they live, why not give them the option early on in their care to have some means by which they can be located and safely returned home?

as long as you can demonstrate that you did, in fact, get the informed consent of the patient, why not?
