Gay Marriage: Supports gay marriage.

Health Care: Kucinich supports a universal, single-payer health care system.

Immigration: Kucinich supports comprehensive immigration reform legislation that would provide a path to legal citizenship for illegal immigrants already living in the U.S.

The war in Iraq: Kucinich voted against the resolution authorizing the use of force in Iraq. His plan for Iraq includes: (1) announcing the U.S. will end the occupation and withdraw from Iraq, (2) announcing we will use existing funds to bring troops and equipment home, (3) turning contracting work over to the Iraqi government, (4) creating a regional conference in order to develop a security and stabilization force for Iraq, (5) preparing an international security and peacekeeping force to replace U.S. troops, and (6) develop and fund a process of national reconciliation. Kucinich also supports paying reparations to Iraq.

Social Security: Kucinich opposes privatization of Social Security and supports lowering the retirement age for full benefits from 67 to 65.

4. I don't support Ron Paul
I support Kucinich and I support PEACE!

And I want a new Congress- that is the least WE the PEOPLE deserve.
They are ignoring us because the elections are already taken care of.

10. now THAT'S some quality spin!
"Please don't post links to sites that promote 3rd party candidates over Dems." That's the verbatim locking message.

Your OP contained a link to a site that promoted Cindy Sheehan and Ron Paul. Your message in your OP promoted Sheehan. You promoted both Sheehan and Paul in your responses downthread.

Yet I somehow got the thread locked? gowexler - 1...reality - 0

15. I have seen links to free republic on this site
I was not personally promoting Cindy or Ron Paul, only the idea of independent minded activists running for office.

It is only when someone like you comes along and alerts on me, that it is a problem. Is every site linked to by this site always examined to make sure there is no information that might promote someone other than a Democrat? I see a link to an article from Paul Craig Roberts and he is a Republican OH MY GAWD NO!!!

We need to stop with the divide and conquer bullshit and unite WE the People against the corporations.

14. Welcome to DU!
Like you, I support Kucinich and PEACE!

Interestingly enough, I live in an extremely conservative area, where Ron Paul is BIG. And one reason is that he will get us out of Iraq. I have friends and acquaintances who will never vote for a Democrat, and so I'm steering them towards Ron Paul. Both parties need to be given the message that we need to get out of Iraq.

but Kucinich is right on everything else! And I don't think Congress will pass anything outlawing handguns.

19. there are too many nutcases with guns though...they are too available to children
I think a program of turning in your guns for food, money, drugs, whatever would help get some of the guns off of the streets. Then we could start working on our violent culture. But leave the Constitution alone thank you very much-I'm with ya!

21. a lot, well- some cities have those kind of turn-in programs...
although they usually are one or two day affairs every so often.

and as far as their being available to children- that's true of a lot of things children shouldn't have, and it's generally the fault of the parent(s)...and try as they might, you just can't legislate good parenting.

26. Yes. But the bill of rights makes no mention of hand guns, or any particular
armament.

We already know that case law has determined that while state chartered militias can own artillery, individuals can't.

Dennis' plan would allow ownership of rifles but not handguns.

i fully agree that politically, this would be a very hard sell in lots of places. That doesn't make it unconstitutional. I mean, the vast majority of people I know who own guns belong to no organized militia.

And even organized state militias don't posses nuclear armaments. So it's pretty well accepted case law that the rights enumerated in the bill of rights aren't absolute. You can't falsely yell fire in a crowded theater, you don't get to be armed with your own atomic bomb or bazooka, and a court appointed attorney will probably get you convicted, (with appologies to any PDs out there who have successfully defended their clients.)

29. at this point, a handgun ban makes about as much sense as alcohol prohibition did/would...
and the supreme court will hopefully make the constitutionality issue a little clearer when they rule on the d.c. case this year.

At least he changed his view on abortion. I could be perfectly happy with no guns anywhere but I don't say that too loud in Wisconsin or I'll get shot.

at least not until something comes along that makes guns useless and obsolete.

the 2nd amendment is in the constitution for a reason- are there any other rights you'd rather the framers had left out...?

when all I said was how I would like the world to be. I live in Wisconsin. Men hunt, I deal with it. Its better than what they used guns for where I used to live, in Chicago. I have no need or desire to ever have a gun, touch a gun, or use a gun in this lifetime. That means I won't be going off to war. But I'm too old anyway.

Most of the gun owners I know in Wisconsin have guns for sport/hunting; most of the gun owners around me in Chicago were trying to protect themselves from crime. These are two very different groups of people. The first group was very easy to accept once I met and talked to a few of them- its something they do a week or two a year, without malice toward animals. I don't choose to do it, but I accept it.

The second group probably has a false sense of security. The people I know who were mugged in Chicago never had their weapons with them when they needed them- and its a good thing, as people can easily be disarmed and have a weapon used against them unless they are well trained. I think there are better approaches to safety than guns- guns are dangerous. I don't choose to do it, but I accept it.

Having a deadly weapon at home would totally creep me out.

so- you obviously don't have a car...and how do you cut your meat?

the problem with chicago/illinois is that they don't allow conceal/carry. hell- chicago doesn't allow handguns period. places with conceal/carry generally have a lower crime rate than comparable areas that don't.

32. When I lived in Chicago
I was on the south side in Hyde Park. There was a merchant killed- maybe 1 per year in that neighborhood killed at work while I lived there. The horrible thing is that you start to get used to it. And I probably had to call the police to report crime at least twice a month- and witnessed something serious maybe once a year.

The only good side is that there was community meetings with police and residents where everyone met together and discussed ongoing situations- that helped people feel safer, get to know each other and the plain clothes cops, and exchange information. Safety is not about weapons, its about information. In a safer community people don't come out for that kind of a meeting unless something really bad happens, but in Chicago people came out for it regularly even to talk about graffiti and gangs hanging around.

33. i lived on the north side- in north park...we never really had any real crime problems.
two weeks after we moved in, we we woken in the middle of the night by a quick series of gunshots in the street- in the next 11 years, nothing. the only two times i had to call the cops was for a neighbor with a huge uncontained pile of brush he was burning illegally who refused to put it out, and for some north park college students who were running down the street on top of the parked cars on their way home from the bar up on bryn mawr. oh, and my neighbor had his garage broken into once. we didn't have much of a graffiti problem either- our garage didn't get tagged once in 11 years.

37. exception
My boyfriend's younger sister was raped and murdered by a serial killer in West Rogers Park in 1977. That was before I lived in Chicago (I grew up in the burbs) and I thought the city was all danger. Bad things can happen anywhere, even in the safest neighborhoods. Nothing bad ever happened to me in Hyde Park but I was pretty careful.
