I'm thoroughly disgusted by the politicization of Bhutto's assassination.
The first thing I heard this morning when I turned on the t.v. was Joe Scarborough ranting about how Bhutto's assassination would help Hillary and Rudy.

First of all I was totally shocked by the news of her murder. But to put it in the context of which American politicians benefited from it was a totally surreal, wtf, moment.

OK. So I just thought well it's just that clod Scarborough spewing forth.

But, oh no, throughout the day literally every segment on the news has been about which candidates are helped or hurt by this wonderful woman's death. Hardly any pundit has addressed the terrible ramifications to Pakistan and the Middle East, NOT TO MENTION her family. If they do discuss it, they immediately make a qualifying statement, such as 'but so and so (some presidential candidate) can certainly CASH IN on her death'.

This country has sunk so low. Our candidates are tearing apart Bhutto's death like a pack of mad dogs, trying to see which one of them can bite off the biggest piece of her misfortune to gorge on. It's a feeding frenzy sharks would envy.

:(

2. Following fearless leaders example.
At least it took a few days to start exploiting 911. Now we see it happening within hours.

3. Unfortunately, it WILL be politicized by the media
and different political camps. It sucks, but that's the way it is.

5. Equally unfortunately it's being exploited by our candidates.
Sorry, but I find that repulsive. I think better of the ones who have said very little today. We should have given the poor woman, her family, and supporters at least one day to grieve, before exploiting her death for political purposes.

I can't see how politicians could not discuss it.

8. Except that an assassination IS political.
She was killed for what she symbolizes. She was killed for what she might gain the power to do.

What her death means is, for the moment, in the hands of people who may also, eventually, be murdered for those reasons. Or are we pretending today that OUR leaders are never assassinated?

In the end, it will not be the leaders but the followers who decide the meaning of her execution. But today it belongs to those who may join her.

It's disgusting, imho.

14. Doesn't mean I have to like it.
I've emailed CNN and MSNBC with these same thoughts, btw. I consider today's coverage of Bhutto's death beyond despicable.

18. I appreciate that touching innocence and naivete. I do.
But neither you nor I spend every day as a symbol and a target. Our candidates DO. They are much more aware than either of us what just happened.

Assassination is on the table.

22. The, mainly media pumped, reaction to her death is way beyond the "norm."

I'm not politically naive, believe me. I have simply never witnessed such wall to wall politicization of an international tragedy, from the very first moment it was known to have happened.

23. When I said "our" I meant American, i.e. from both parties, candidates.
I realized, unfortunately too late to edit, that many here might interpret my use of "our" to mean Democrats exclusively.

17. I was not shocked at all.
After the 1st attempt that killed 130 people one would think that she would not
expose herself to another. She was not even wearing a dragon skin vest, which she could
have afforded to purchase. I am not blaming the victim but she could have been more
security astute.

16. The media sees it just as politics, nothing else to them.
There is a reason you wont ever see an honest politician that stands for the people, as president, they would be taken out like they took out JFK. Hopefully someone will be brave enough to take on her role to help at all cost like she did.

19. I haven't heard or seen any of the candidates using the assassination
to their benefit. If the asshole commentators want to do something like that how can you blame the candidates. But I guess it doesn't take much to twist the bashing toward her...one and all.
