Is the Bush Administration getting tired of playing ball with Musharraff?
Bhutto, it has been reported, was being pushed onto the scene by the CIA. Bhutto stated that she would be much more aggressive than Musharraff in going after the extremist elements within Pakistan.

Musharraff must have seen her as a threat to his political power and the power of the military infrastructure of Pakistan.

The balancing act of placating Washington by giving Bush propaganda victories in the "war on terror" by attacking "the terrorists" where they live in rogue tribal areas, at the same time providing safe haven for these same extremist elements, seems to have been wearing thin for the Bush Administration.
