The short version: nobody really knows for sure, since the only sightings we know of have been video tapes, and it's impossible to prove 100% that a person on a video tape is who they claim to be. It's strong evidence that Bin Laden is alive, but not definitive.

It's certainly possible that this Sheik person claimed to have killed Bin Laden, possibly as a PR tactic. How many people in that area would know for sure, or be able to see the videos?
