Huckabee: ‘I Don’t Know’ If People Are ‘Born’ Gay, But It’s A ‘Choice’ To Act Gay

On NBC’s Meet The Press this morning, host Tim Russert asked former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee if he believed “people are born gay or choose to be gay?” “I don’t know whether people are born that way,” responded Huckabee, “but one thing I know, that the behavior one practices is a choice.”

Huckabee conceded that “people who are gay say that they’re born that way,” but added that he believed that “how we behave and how we carry out that behavior” is more important. Watch it:

Was Mike Huckabee born an ignorant asshole, or does he just behave like one?

Even money says both.

5. Loathsome Huck...
Edited on Sun Dec-30-07 07:50 PM by dorkulon

47. Mike Huckabee

Charges: What's worse, a calculating politician pretending to be a devout Christian, or a genuine heartland preacher who didn't come from no monkey? Huckabee is both -- a Southern Baptist who rejects Darwin, wants to give everyone a gun and thinks people with AIDS should be quarantined, and a seedy, corrupt politician who's never seen a payoff so low he won't stoop to pick it up. Democrats see Huckabee as easily defeated in a general election, but they shouldn't be so sure -- Smooth talking preachers tend to do well in this country. Huckabee is well-spoken, kind-faced, and the opposite of wordly -- he's Obama for hicks.

Exhibit A: "I got into politics because I knew government didn't have the real answers, that the real answers lie in accepting Jesus Christ into our lives... I hope we answer the alarm clock and take this nation back for Christ."

Sentence: Just as he's about to win the GOP nomination, a freak gust of wind catches Huckabee's excess skin and carries him out over the Atlantic, where he drifts for hours before God appears to him, tells him He's a Unitarian, and sends him to hell.

6. Wait a minute - I think Doris Day was a great singer, but I'm straight. Am I in trouble here?
Would President Huckabee jail me for "behaving gay?"

What about my prediliction for watching HGTV? Geez, I'm in deep shit. So are you, for your "behavior."

G'bye, Mike. Talk to your son about hanging dogs and taking handguns through carry-ons at the airport, then come after the rest of us.

20. Now that's science at its finest.
Bottom line is, I also think Judy Garland could sing, and that I think Wonder Woman was hot. Am I doomed to chains under a Huckabee administration?

Been watching football all week though, and at 56, few people give a damn which way I lean at this point, and that usually includes me. Hach-tooie, pass gas and gimme the Sports section.

19. If they have to choose to not act gay, then he has to choose to stop acting hetero.
It's only fair, especially since he's supposed to love his neighbor as himself.

For crying out loud, that argument is crap. Being gay doesn't mean someone's got to be celibate for life. Sheesh!

39. Yeah, so what?
I absolutely choose to "act gay," whatever the hell that means. I absolutely choose to live openly as a lesbian. I'm out at work, at home, everywhere. That's my choice.

My other choices would be to (a) "Act gay" in secret and "pretend to be straight" in public. That's a real "family value," that is - pretending to be someone I'm not. :eyes:

Or I could (b) Never "act gay" at all but just stuff my feelings way down deep and go around living a miserable repressed life. I guess that Huckleberry Hound would like that - he seems to like the idea of people suffering for no particular reason.

Personally, I think I might "act gay" more than ever just to celebrate my utter and total queerness! I'm going to kick up my gay heels. Yee-ha!

41. All behavior is a choice. Everything you do, all day long, is a result of your choices.
I have to agree with Huckabee on that one point. We are constantly making choices and everything we do is a result of hundreds, even thousands, of decisions we make all day long, whether consciuosly or unconsciously.

48. I never said that.
You're putting words into my mouth and I never made any such statement. Every action undertaken by every person, of any sexual orientation, anywhere in the world, is a result of a decision made by that person, whether they realize it or not. I agree with that general principle, but that's all I agree with Huckabee on. I'm not extending it to make any judgement of anyone's behavior, whatsoever. I'm just agreeing with the fact that all of our actions are results of choices we make. Period.

Yes, I was born this way. I knew I was different in the 6th grade and this is not a learned behavior, I tried having girl friends and it just did not work nor did it feel right.
