Kid Rock's "Amen" What do you think?
Edited on Mon Dec-31-07 04:39 AM by alphafemale
I really like it.

But I think FReeper types are really misinterpreting as bad as they did "Born in the USA"

I can't find a straight sample but you can find it here.

2. Making somebody feel "guilty" of being white serves no pupose,
Edited on Mon Dec-31-07 04:54 AM by alphafemale
Anymore than making someone feel bad for being black or yellow served a purpose.

You can point out injustice without trying to make people feel bad for the color of their skin.

That's something they have no control over,

5. I read that line to mean feeling guilty for benefitting from white privilege
at the expense of others who don't have that privilege.

6. Kid Rock grew up trying to be "black"
He said that it was black friends that brought him around to thinking there is no "inherent evil" in being white.

You just can't accept the "system" I think the song is about rejecting the system.

8. Is there anyone he won't rip-off?
hahahah

Minor Threat
-Guilty of being white

I'm sorry
For something I didn't do
Lynched somebody
But I don't know who
You blame me for slavery
A hundred years before I was born

Guilty of being white
Guilty of being white
Guilty of being white

I'm a convict
Of a racist crime
I've only served
19 years of my time

Guilty of being white
Guilty of being white
Guilty of being white

Sampling a lot of tunes on this one too.

Never cared for Kid Rock, so this is no surprise.

15. Yeah. I just happened to hear "Amen" on the way to work the other day.
I was struck enough to "look it up" from the snatch of lyrics I remembered.

I was kind of surprised it WAS Kid Rock to tell you the truth.

I really don't much follow current "Pop" at all.

4. It's okay
But the freepers can keep it. No decent hook and the lyrics sound like he's pretending to be inspirational.

12. Yeah. That's just some images somebody slapped together.
Not the real video. That's pretty obvious by the poor quality.

17. That's a huge pile of crap.
Perfect campaign song for Ron Paul!

"Habitual offenders, scumbag lawyers with agendas
I'll tell you sometimes people I don't know what's worse"

WTF does that mean? I do indigent defense work and the "scumbag lawyers" are the only ones who give a sh*t or fight the HOA laws...most folks don't care when someone goes to jail for the rest of his or her life for a third time offense which can be as minor as stealing an item valued at $300 or more.

"Stop pointing fingers and take some blame,
Pull your future away from the flame
Open up your mind and start to live
Stop short changing your neighbors
Living off hand outs and favors, and maybe
Give a little bit more than you got to give"

Who is living off hand outs and favors? The poor?

"Somewhere you got a brother, sister, friend, grandmother, niece or nephew
Just dying to be with you
You know there's someone out there who unconditionally, religiously, loves you
So just hold on 'cause you know it's true"

Again, I do indigent defense work and I can promise you that most of the people I see DO NOT have those people in their life so I think Mr. Bob Ritchie needs a dose of reality. I'd like for him to work with me for a few weeks.

18. Even in your highly selective sampling to damn the lyrics you still included...
"Give a little bit more than you got to give"

Maybe you still have time to go back and edit that out.

21. You posted a link to all the lyrics and asked what's your opinion.
I gave you mine. If you don't like it or don't want to hear it, why did you ask?

It's the perfect song for a libertarian.

Hell. They don't want to even pay their fair share. :D

25. If you read the entire verse, you will see he is talking about people
doing that. It is exactly the philosophy of the libertarian. They don't believe in the social contract and that if most government programs were shut down that the American people would be charitable enough to take care of those in need. In other words, give the people back all the money you stole from them to run your federal government and we'll take care of each other.

In the line before that one, he speaks of people not taking hand outs, etc. He is definitely advocating a libertarian philosophy in my opinion.

Even the parts I agree with about the soldier and religion are part of a (current) libertarian philosophy.

I'm not trying to argue with you and people can get different messages from music, but knowing Bob Ritchie's political views and then hearing this song, I am of the opinion that it's definitely not something I want to hear or buy as a Liberal.

met him on tour a couple times.. struck me as a self absorbed asshole. This whole trying to have a social conscience thing is hilarious. It's like Paul McCartney trying to do a "gangsta" album...
