http://www.amazon.com/Blacklisted-History-Senator-McCarthy-Americas/dp/140008105X/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199133738&sr=8-1A sure sign that America has truly lost its way, this book is nearly 700 pages of self-serving "rehabilitation" of ol' Joe McCarthy for the new millennium. I'm not sure which is worse, that anyone would seek to drag the rotting corpse of this particular flag-draped fascist into the light of day agin, or the Amazon reader reviews which seem to view Joe as something akin to the second coming of Christ.
I spotted the book prominently displayed in my local Borders. As I was leafing incredulously through it, a fellow customer of the neocon persuasion told me, unbidden, "that's a great book. Really sets the record straight about a Great American. I recommend it." I replied, "Maybe, but I tend to prefer my fascists a little less homespun." My interlocutor was one of those people who hear no voices but their own, so he just nodded vigorously and said, "yeah! Me too."
I'm still somewhat amazed that this book was ever written. I'm sure the sequel will be something like "Adolph Hitler: Misunderstood Genius."
Anyone else got any recommendations that'll knock this off my top spot? Books by Ann Coulter aren't eligible.
on edit: I particularly like the Amazon reader review that outs Publishers Weekly as the mouthpiece of the "International Communist Conspiracy(TM)". Comedy gold. You just can't make this stuff up.
