Ron Paul Kicked Giuliani's Ass!!!!!
http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080104/NEWS09/80103050

Following on the heels of Thompson and McCain was Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, at 10 percent. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani finished near the back of the pack at 4 percent.

He couldn't even get 9.11% of the vote

1. I wish it was literally instead of figuratively. I'd pay to see that.

2. Not really into defending Giuliani much, but
he hardly bothered to campaign there, and is banking on making up ground in the later, larger states.

6. His strategy was smart
You have to remember that Iowa is one of the most conservative states in the country, probably only behind Kansas. The repbulican who wins Iowa is generally seen as the most conservative of the pack, which is why it should come as no surprise that Rudy faired so poorly. He is going to get MUCH more support in more metropolitan states. His campaign tactics (I think) were pretty smart here. Why dump a lot of your budget in a state you have no chance of winning in? He will go big in the southern states with high electorals (Florida and Texas). I think Rudy might be jumping the gun and already thinking about the regular election but if he wins New York, Florida and Texas in the general he becomes pretty hard to beat.

A lot of the hard-core bible thumpers see Mitt and the Huckster as the only real "religion and family values" candidate (now that Brownback is out).

4. Giuliani's busy pandering to the gusanos:
Giuliani picks Hialeah over Iowa

<snip>

"Rudy Giuliani may have been way behind the top Republican presidential contenders in Thursday night's Iowa caucus, but he was hoping to be ahead of the pack in Florida.

Foregoing the frost and last-minute caucus campaigning, Giuliani was busy shoring up support in Florida on Thursday night, speaking at a political rally in Hialeah.

"We've spent 37 days in Florida in 2007, that's 37 days of organizing a big effort," Giuliani told the crowd of about 200 supporters gathered at Milander Auditorium, 4800 Palm Ave."

<snip>

"This marked Giuliani's third visit to the largely Cuban-American city in the span of six months. Even so, the rally's attendance -- a mix of elderly and middle-aged Cuban Americans -- was less than the 1,000 initially announced by Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina."

5. Huckabee's win will do one thing--send the establishment Repubs to
McCain's or Rudy's arms. Don't count Rudy out just yet.
