-quote-
And these past five years have given us a much clearer view of the nature of this enemy.

Al-Qaeda and its followers are Sunni extremists, possessed by hatred and commanded by a harsh and narrow ideology.

-quote-
In recent times, it has also become clear that we face an escalating danger from Shia extremists who are just as hostile to America, and are also determined to dominate the Middle East.

-quote-
Many are known to take direction from the regime in Iran, which is funding and arming terrorists like Hezbollah -a group second only to al-Qaeda in the American lives it has taken.

-quote
We broke up a Southeast Asian terrorist cell grooming operatives for attacks inside the United States.

-quote
To prevail, we must remove the conditions that inspire blind hatred, and drove 19 men to get onto airplanes and come to kill us.

(The Saudis?)

-quote-
For all of us in this room, there is no higher responsibility than to protect the people of this country from danger.

Five years have come and gone since we saw the scenes and felt the sorrow that terrorists can cause. We have had time to take stock of our situation. We have added many critical protections to guard the homeland.

3. The guys in charge don't seem to like Democracy much either
One of their first causalities was our Bill of Rights.

They are also at war with Americans who understand the Constitution and/or seeks truth.

continuing to resist admitting there's a civil war in Iraq and still continuing to propogate a link between Iraq, 9/11 and the WOT. It is CRUCIAL to these assholes the American people have that link in their heads - so they keep lying. I don't think the fear mongering still works the way it did though.

8. Al-Quaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah
only respond to the terrorism instigated by Westerners. Islam is the religion of peace.

Westerners must leave the middle-east, and there will be peace.

10. Seems A Bit Narrow
A solution that simple seems intrinsically flawed. I know our hands are dirty. But, why would the entire presence of western culture have to be excised. How is that peace?

13. Muslims want only to live in peace
without the influence of Western culture. Much in the same way that Americans cry out for the assimilation of immigrants into their culture, Muslims cannot tolerate the introduction of values which are foreign to us. Excise these values, and there will be peace in the M.E.

President Clinton understood this, the current pretender to the White House does not.

16. You Didn't Answer The Question
How is kicking people out so co-existence is not an option, defined as "peace"? That's not peace. It's exclusionary nonsense. If muslims in the middle east wish to ignore western influence, that's up to them. But, kicking people out doesn't seem like any indicator of "living in peace".

11. Which religion ISN'T a (not "the") "religion of peace"??
Edited on Wed Jan-24-07 11:17 AM by TahitiNut
Hmmmm?? :eyes:

Would "westerners" who are Muslim and engaging in a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage to Mecca still be welcome after all(??) westerners left the Middle East?

14. As religions go, Christianity is not
peaceful, you may have noticed.

"Western" Muslims on a pilgrimage would be welcome, provided they do indeed observe the Muslim culture, and follow the Quran.

17. Christianity includes everything from Quakers to Roman Catholics and ...
... everything from Amish to Southern Baptist. At the same time, Islam includes everything from Sufism to Wahhabism and everything from Hanafi Sunni to Bohras Shi'a. I find broad brush characterizations of any extensively denominated religion as a "religion of peace" (as opposed to any other religion) to be overtly secular rather than sectarian. Thus, such a characterization seems solely political rather than theological and is antithetical to amity among people of various faith traditions. Being antithetical to amity, it is thus an exploitation of the superficials (secularized motifs) primarily for the sake of exacerbating division. That, then, creates a contradiction - a reductio ad absurdum which betrays the fallacy of the claim.

Do you follow?

12. Was he guarding Israels interests too?
"Many are known to take direction from the regime in Iran, which is funding and arming terrorists like Hezbollah -a group second only to al-Qaeda in the American lives it has taken."

Hezbollah at th present time has little interest in attacking America or Americans, I believe that one was floated shortly before the elections last fall and quickly sunk. However tyeing AQ to Hezbollah would be in this admins interests if Syria is in their sights the Beirut bombing was well over 20 years ago and between now and then we have had American lives lost to other groups with whom we are now if not friends at least not enemies. Hezbollah is quite possibly a threat to Israel and to Lebanon, but certainly not the US, that is unless he "decider's" to attack them first and they have the "nerve" to shoot back.
