Senators eye rejection of Bush war plan

WASHINGTON — Democrats took the first step toward a wartime repudiation of President Bush on Wednesday, convening a Senate committee to endorse legislation declaring that the deployment of additional troops to Iraq is "not in the national interest."

...............

Hagel's remarks were among the most impassioned of the day.

"There is no strategy," he said of the Bush administration's war management. "This is a pingpong game with American lives. These young men and women that we put in Anbar province, in Iraq, in Baghdad are not beans; they're real lives. And we better be damn sure we know what we're doing, all of us, before we put 22,000 more Americans into that grinder."

But, he has been strongly critical of how Team Bush has run the show regarding Iraq...

11. Yes
Asked about his vote in support of the final Iraq war resolution, Hagel told GQ, “Do I regret that vote? Yes, I do regret that vote.”

I am perplexed as to the game, if any, he is playing. Could it be he is that rarest of breeds, an honest Reich politician?

5. I really respect Chuck hagel's opinions here...
This is a man who has seen combat and knws the horros of war first hand.

Contrast this to the AWOL drunk and Dick the Dodger.

I may not agree with Hagel on a lot of social issues, but he is DEAD-ON with these comments. (If MCain wasn't so busy sucking right-wing ass, he might be able to hear some of this.)

8. Not sure they're taken in as much as they recognize his threats
Bush making statements like "Give us one more chance to succeed and support our troops" is telling them that Karl Rove is going to be giving speeches about the traitors in Congress again.

12. One senator is swimming upstream. I applaud him.

History books tend to note those who speak out at such times, whatever their party affiliation. There is good reason for that.

13. Too bad a Democrat couldn't come up with that soundbite/image/meme in a thousand years.
"A ping-pong game with American lives."

No Democrat could ever come up with something that good.

Too fucking bad.
