Bush OKs Navy Use of Sonar to Kill Whales, Other Mammals

WASHINGTON-President Bush exempted the Navy from an environmental law so it can continue using sonar in its anti-submarine warfare training off the California coast -- a practice critics say is harmful to whales and other marine mammals.

The White House announced Wednesday that Bush had signed the exemption Tuesday while traveling in the Middle East.

"The president's action is an attack on the rule of law," said Joel Reynolds, director of the Marine Mammal Protection Project at the Natural Resources Defense Council. "By exempting the Navy from basic safeguards under both federal and state law, the president is flouting the will of Congress, the decision of the California Coastal Commission and a ruling by the federal court."

3. This isn't just "sonar." It's a new SUPER-DUPER sonar.

It's sad it's taken so long to be addressed. This came out shortly after dip-shit allowed us to be attacked, although it was obviously in the works even before that. It's a massive sonar so loud that it blasts the mammals eardrums until they bleed, and the get disoriented and ground themselves. But if Bush doesn't care about human life, why would anyone expect him to care about some little fishies?

making George Bush take the heat for the continued harsh, nonsensical declarations and laws.

I do return to a probability that his father is calling all the shots, making the decisions along with Dick Cheney, while allowing his son take essentially all the heat.
