Minimum wage bill FAILED in the Senate?
Edited on Wed Jan-24-07 12:38 PM by ReverendDeuce
Maybe I am reading it wrong, but it's the huge banner on MSNBC right now... "BREAKING NEWS: Senate rejects effort to pass minimum wage bill without additional tax cuts"

No story yet, so I am not sure if I am just mis-reading the wording of the teaser.

1. It would have been vetoed if it didn't have tax breaks for
the wealthy.

3. So? Let him veto it.
Make him do it. Make him put it on record that tax breaks for the wealthy are more important than lifting the poorest among us up, even a little.

Christian my ass.

20. tax breaks
Did you see Rep Shuster R-PA on cspan the other day?
He was talking about how the Dems were raising taxes again within 4days of power,
but he was talking about the Oil Company bill reducing corporate welfare for them.
So tell me how was that raising taxes on the average American???

And lower taxes my A$$, I am paying more now and making less.
I paid less under Clinton.....................The Repubes are trying to pull the wool
over everyones eyes....

Oh, if only we had a real media. Frickin Telecom Act. We were promised the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine, but he gave us this mess instead.

25. The Senate Republicans blocked the bill, so they have given
us an issue. Many Rep Senators are up for reelection in 2008, bush isn't.

9. Didn't they add the line item veto to the minimum wage bill?
Maybe this is why it failed? I don't know.

14. Thats what I thought they were trying to do.
I don't know if Gregg amendment had to pass, then get attached to the bill, then bill goes for vote. In conclusion, don't know if it was attached and then voted down.

The Pukkkes will continue to try to add tax cuts to the bill, and the dems will try to fight them or find a compromise

8. What the Senate just voted on was the House
version of the minimum wage bill. Harry Reid was seeking a cloture vote on it, and cloture failed. They will still be taking up a Senate version of the minimum wage bill, with the tax package for the small businesses included.

11. I hope they're *very* restrictive with the defintion of "small business".
History shows us that huge corporations can somehow manage to get breaks that were supposedly intended to go to small businesses.

12. It makes no sense...
They need to give the business owner a tax break, before giving the workers a raise? This was supposed to be for the workers, not the owners. The attached tax break defeats the whole purpose.

If a business is just skimming by where it can only afford to pay its workers $5/hr then it is a failure and might as well close down.

I'm going to be SO glad when this regressive bastard gets voted da fuck out soon. He is a BLIGHT on this state. Then, he can join his fellow regressive FORMER Senaturd DeWine and they can go on the lecture circuit together, fellating Great Leader and his policies.

At least Brown cares about the WORKERS of this country and isn't embarrassed by it.
