DODD WILL FILIBUSTER FISA BILL!
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 07:42 PM by kpete
Update 4 - 7:02 PM -- Dodd NOW on Senate Floor!!!

Update 5 - Saying it now

I will filibuster.

"I care deeply about this."

"The ability of one Senator to be significant."

Dodd will filibuster
by: Tim Tagaris
Wed Jan 23, 2008 at 12:55:43 PM EST

Lest there was any question about whether or not Dodd would follow through ... His office just put out the following statement:

"Few things are more detrimental to this country than the erosion of and attack on the civil liberties we enjoy. This isn't a Democratic issue or a Republican issue; this is an American issue. If after debate, the Senate appears ready to pass legislation granting telecom providers retroactive immunity I will use any and all legislative tools at my disposal, including a filibuster, to prevent this deeply flawed bill from becoming law. More and more, Americans are rejecting the false choice that has come to define this administration: security or liberty, but never, ever both. For all those who have stood with me throughout this fight, I pledge, once more, to stand up for you."

Such an action would probably take place tomorrow, is my best guess.

Time to look into that refund policy for flights to Davos ...

Can you please,,,, (82+ / 0-)

watch Dodd and Feingold's backs now?

by Miss Blue on Wed Jan 23, 2008 at 01:29:28 PM PST

voted with them from the start (84+ / 0-)

I voted with Russ Feingold and Chris Dodd against the motion to proceed with this FISA bill back before recess – and if you remember the Alito fight, you know where I stand on the Constitutional rights of the American people.

17. If Senator Clinton or Senator Obama don't make it back to
Washington to help Senator Dodd, neither of them deserve our votes.

This is put up or shut up time. This is when it counts. Will either one of them stand up and be heard, and filibuster with Senator Dodd?

I'm not holding my breath.

18. Clinton, Obama both on record they will support a filibuster
Waaaay back in October, both HRC and BO said they would support Dodd and a filibuster.

Let's see if their actions live up to their words.

20. They don't need to make it back to support the filibuster.
If it comes to a cloture vote, which is the only way to end a filibuster unless Dodd ends it voluntarily, then all they have to do is just not vote. To end a filibuster requires 60 votes in favor of cloture. Any Senators who don't vote have the same effect as Senators who vote against.

31. They should be there to actually engage in the filibuster
when Dodd needs a break. The more who are there, the longer it goes, and the more chance of the filibuster being successful.

38. Thank You!!
They should also use their Media Exposure to throw public awareness and support behind this issue.
Hillary can COMMAND Face Time on all major networks when it is about her campaign. I would LOVE to see her use this POWER to benefit America!

Saying you support something, and actually STANDING UP IN FRONT are two very different things.

Lost a fairly close race, if I recall.

I wonder how things would have been different if Dodd was the majority leader instead of Daschle?

I can understand dropping out of the race when you're in the single digits, you're not made out of money, and the M$M has already picked their candidates. But he can filibuster this thing with just a little help. I hope he gets it.
