Hucklebee says the way to end terrorism is to steal Iraq's oil and let them sell rugs and bag sand
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/01/24/politics/fromtheroad/entry3749190.shtml

“If we really want to see the Middle East changed, take away their capacity to fund terrorism. Take away the oil dollar. There’s not enough money selling rugs and bagging sand for them to operate the terrorist cells that have come against us."

He must be going for the insane freeper vote now?

4. To be fair - He was talking about energy independence, not stealing their oil
From the article:
"Huckabee said “letting the Middle East go up in flames” would furthermore would push up the price of oil.” He extended his answer to the subject of making the U.S. energy independent within ten years."

9. I doubt if we will ever be energy independent. We are the largest consumer of energy and energy
suppliers are world citizens. They are not going to let go of their biggest customer. In a global economy I doubt very much that we would be energy isolationists.

I think the words "energy independent" are used to gain votes but ring hollow. The consumer can play only a small role because he/she does not create the technology that creates energy or the technology that consumes it. The consumer is a passive player here.

12. My point is that he didn't say we should steal their oil
Certainly, Huck is a madman. But accuracy matters. And the OP's interpretation of Huckabee's words is innacurate.

17. Continuing the Iraq War (which he discussed in the same speech) IS stealing
their oil. Iraq is going from a national oil industry to one that's open to multinational oil companies. We're not there for the figs, as my Senator says.

22. He said he wanted us energy independent
Therefore, I took it to mean that we would then not need their oil.

Nothing he said as quoted in the article led me to think he wanted us to steal their oil. Just take away their revenues - "oil dollar".

Thanks for asking.

11. Would China's, Europe's and India's funding...
lead to terrorism in those countries, or is it our foreign and economic policies that makes us a target? Yeah, that Huckleberry's on hell of a deep thinker.

6. If there is one good thing to be said about the long primary runs,
it is that it gives people like the Huck that much more time to make complete fools of themselves. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool; than to speak and remove all doubt. I don't remember who said that, but he must have had people like the Huck in mind.

10. I don't know, Mike
How much money does it take to fly an airplane into a building, or put together a bomb? These aren't real cash-intensive projects, but for some reason they're able to bring a military industrial complex funded to the tune of a half trillion dollars a year to its knees.

It don't take a millionaire to fricasee a squirrel in a popcorn popper, as you well know Mike.

presidential and he pretends to be.

Huckabee came in to the campaign with reports of being an adult. He's no more of an adult than the cheerleader.

Imagine 8 years of Huckabee - if they combined all his stupid, arrogant, hate filled, unfortunate, embarassing sayings with George the Jr. it would probably total up to a 50 volume set of sayings.

I'm beginning to think that 2008 will be the winner as the 'year of the most hapless and hopeless advice from campaign managers' - since? since 1999?
