Breaking: Christian brando dies
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 05:45 PM by RGBolen
LOS ANGELES (AP) A lawyer for Marlon Brando's estate says the actor's eldest son Christian Brando has died of pneumonia at a Los Angeles hospital.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Christian Brando, the troubled eldest son of Hollywood icon Marlon Brando, has died at the age of 49, media reports said on Saturday.

The New York Post and People magazine both reported on their Web sites that Brando, son of the late screen star and Welsh actress Anna Kashfi, had died of complications from pneumonia.

"His body was totally compromised," Brando's ex-wife, Deborah, told People. "He'd lived so hard ... this is just so sad."

Representatives for Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, where Brando was admitted on January 11, declined comment. Friends of the family could not immediately be reached for comment by Reuters.

24. Those folks SHOULD have been Happy! F-ing drugs and alcohol!!
Their dad was one of my early heros, for standing with the Civil Rights movement and with Native Americans, not to mention the fact that that kiss he gave Eva Marie Saint in her apartment in On the Waterfront was the precise moment when I began to understand what sex is about.

Yes, I'm old.

40. She made up the abuse claims to enrage Christian. And it wasn't the end of Brando's family.
He had other children.

20. Sure, but to die from it?
I should have been more specific. Most people who die from pneumonia are either elderly or have other problems like advanced cancer or HIV.

31. Pneumonia is actually very deadly, lills 40-70k per year in the US alone
And that's not including deaths resulting from reaction to drugs used to treat it (It appears Heath Ledger died from the combination of antibiotics prescribed for Pneumonia and sleeping pills). It is the 5th leading killer of people in the US. Yes, the elderly are more at risk, but 49 isn't exactly "young."

25. That's true
not to excuse him but being Marlon Brando's son must have been something. I don't think Marlon exactly had both "oars in the water", that whole family seemed certifiable.

33. The Brando Family.
They re-wrote the concept of dysfunctional families. While other families suffered, the Brandos BLED. It was truly unbelievable, the fights, the custody battles, the back stabbing, counter moves, kids caught in the tornado of parents fighting.

Really, really tragic.

34. Dead of Pneumonia at 49???
As an ex-emt I guess (in order)
Aids complication
drug use
other auto-immune disease
bad luck
Not an indictment of the man, his family, or his life....these are just the betting odds.

35. Christian Brando's mother basically tricked Brando into marrying her
From the Marlon Brando wiki:

He married actress Anna Kashfi in 1957, mistakenly believing her to be of Indian descent when she was in fact from Wales and of Irish Roman Catholic extraction. Her real name was Joan O'Callaghan. O'Callaghan did not discourage Brando's mistake; in fact, she dressed and made herself up as an Indian beauty after learning that Brando gravitated toward exotic women. They divorced in 1959 after having one son together, Christian Brando.
