in last nights preening and cult-of-personality tribe building.

1. There's a built-in preference for vets in all federal hiring/civil service jobs.
So they may have been referring to that. That's been the case for decades under both Dem & GOP administrations. Nothing new there. I can't imagine the "keep-big-gubmint-off-my-back" GOPers would try to force veteran's preference on private employers.

2. Five extra points
WHOOPEE! - Point system for "Classified" people only - Many government jobs are unclassified appointed positions (read: political) and the point system in that case is regularly ignored and irrelavent. There are also "conflicted" recruiters out there - From personal experience, I know of one recruiter (on commission) that was also a Deputy Registrar - can you say HACK! FWIW, I also believe there are some "on commission" recruiters who privately collude w/hiring managers.

Private employers with govn't contracts are supposed to follow Vet preference but hire H1Bs, and the DOL and EEOC throw away complaints from Vets who complain citing preference FUBARS.
