I hope it was worth it Dennis.

I couldn't help but be taken aback at how Kucinich went out of his way to be in position to shake Junior's hand as he entered the House chamber.

I was watching the SOTU on ABC, and Gibson mentioned how Congressmen would show up hours before the speech just to get an aisle seat and appear on TV.

TV face time in exchange for shaking the hand of a giggling murderer.
I hope it was worth it.

1. Who knows
maybe he had a few choice words for *, or perhaps he was just reminding him of his presence for annoyance's sake.

2. there has been relatively little mention of that here, but at least he didn't kiss him.

he was also pretty effusive as Bush left the chamber too, but who knows? as someone else said maybe he also said a few choice words behind that smile.

3. I heard Dennis on BBC radio about 1:00 am talking about
what he said to Bush. He was offering to help him in a bi-partisan way with mideast problems. The way Dennis was telling the story on the radio it sounded as if he had been in a private meeting with the President, instead of a drive-by encounter.

5. It's untoward to characterize the content of Kucinich's remarks
until you know what they were.

Some of the fiercest anti-war rhetoric can be growled through a grin.

I very seriously doubt that Dennis Kucinich just shitcanned his anti-war values for a 2 or 3 second handshake.

really enjoyed shaking hands with the boy mayor, the earliest dissenter.

11. That's where you made your mistake, you were watching the wrong network
I watched the speech on NBC, but after it was done I started flipping around the various networks to start getting a grasp on what the MSM spin was going to be. I stopped on Faux, and found something very interesting. They had the camera microphone on while Bush was doing his shake hands, slap backs, sign autographs exit. It was on loud enough that it could pick up, quite clearly what was being said during this exit, and Faux, amazingly enough, let it go on without talking over it(I think Hume was just as suprised as we were that we were able to do this sort of eavesdropping on this scene). And Kucinich wasn't after TV face time, he was getting ahold of the president and politely, but firmly giving him a piece of his mind about the war and the escalation that Bush is implementing. I wasn't able to catch the entire exchange, but it was definetly a disagreement over the war and escalation, and in fact Kucinich was quite insistent.

I also caught other exchanges, such as with the Senator from Iowa, who draped effusive praise on Bush for his ethanol proposal. There were many, many exchanges like this up and down the line, and even for a brief minute after Bush had left the chamber. A very interesting little segment, on Faux of all places.

Kucinich wasn't after TV face time friend, he isn't that vain. He was taking the president to task over the war, something that Dennis does every chance he gets.

17. I was simply pointing out that he had to go out of his way to shake his hand.
Edited on Wed Jan-24-07 02:26 PM by MilesColtrane
Being a political cynic, I ascribed his motivation for that to the desire to get on TV. That's not a stretch, especially if he is thinking of a future presidential bid. It's a chance to be seen on all of the broadcast networks.

Then again, maybe he waited three hours just so he could tell him off.

I heard Kucinich on BBC World News last night, and what he said to Bush during the handshake wasn't all lovey-dovey.

Kucinich is convinced that the * administration is laying a foundation for an attack on Iran.

I like how he got into *'s personal space and communicated the fact that "I'm here, and I'm not just going away."

22. LOL, did you even hear what Kucinich was saying?
Reference my post above, I did hear what Dennis was saying, and none of it was praise. Sure, one can grin, pump the flesh, look good for the camera and still take the Bushboy to task for his illegal, immoral war. That is exactly what Dennis was doing.

Yes, let's crucify Dennis Kucinich, who probably lives one of the most ethical, intergrity centered political lives of anyone in that chamber because when * walked by he didn't spit in his face, but reached out his hand.

Dennis doesn't stand a chance running as a Democrat.

On Edit: Thank you for post #11.

29. No problem, just reporting what I saw AND heard
Apparently not every network carrried that mic feed live. I was utterly astounded that Fox did, considering what we were witnessing. No, deals weren't being openly struck on the House floor, but there was lots of "wink, wink, nudge, nudge, know what I mean" sort of glad-handing going on. I think that Hume and the other sychophants at Fox were stunned too that they were having this naked demonstration of power politics going on in front of them.

Perhaps somebody has the audio and video of this on their Tivo. I imagine that Fox has erased this "glitch" by now.
