A big thank you to John Kerry and his supporters!
I just want to take a second to thank John Kerry for many things. John Kerry is a true American hero. He has fought for ordinary Americans since his time in the Navy. Kerry fought in Vietnam. Kerry fought for American veterans. Kerry fought the Reagan filth in the 80's. Kerry fought for peace. Kerry fought the Bush Crime Family. And then Kerry fought for all Americans again in 2004. He helped change public opinion on this unnecessary war.

Kerry is an American hero and a Democratic Party leader. I am looking forward to what comes next.

And to Kerry supporters. I know this is a difficult day. You have done an outstanding job of representing yourselves and John Kerry over the last 4 years. Enjoy the election process as undecided voters. That's pretty exciting.

2. Yes, Thank You!
It is worth remembering that in his '04 run Kerry received more votes than any other democrat who ever ran for president and the second highest amount of popular votes period. Had Ohio votes been counted honestly he probably would have won those electoral votes and been the president.

It wasn't so long ago that the vast majority of us were Kerry supporters at the voting booth. He's going to be a strong advocate for us as he continues his senatorial career.

5. Don't forget he fought Bush1 and Clinton, too, on CIA drugrunning story that
was covered up in 1996. And fought to bring BCCI documents to the PUBLIC that Bush1 and Clinton 1 did NOT want the public to see.

Gee - is that why Kerry was so heavily targeted by the DC powerstructure. Gee...you think?

Isn't it GREAT that a GREAT anti-corruption, open government Democrat got the media stacked against him? Isn't that just great news?

11. I know how disappointed you are, blm.
I'm bummed about this too. But it seems that you only get one shot at the ring today. If you lose (which I don't think he or Gore did), you get pushed aside.Anyways, it will be interesting to see how this effects his immediate political future...he's free to pursue some really hardball politics now. Love to see him take point on investigating all of the corruption that permeates the Republican Syndicate.

I hope he exposes them ALL and lets Americans see how much the secrecy and privilege bunch only look at them as VOTERS and never respects them as CITIZENS.

22. And in a country with fair elections -- Prez Gore would be in his second term.
Gore is doing great raising awareness about the climate crisis.

He spoke to an audience of 10 000 in Boise on Monday, and is still on Tour! :)

His movie "An Inconvenient Truth" is nominated for an Academy Award.

He is working on his next book "The Assault on Reason" -- due out in May.

He has not ruled out running again and is keeping his options open.

Let's all find ways to show our support for Al Gore! :)

Leaning toward Al Gore (if we can get him to run). But I would have loved to have Kerry again. He was great in 2004, and I'm convinced he won.

37. So I guess you must not care much for Jim Webb or Wes Clark?
Teresa was a Democrat by philosophy long before John ran for President. And if John Heinz had lived , she has often commented that he would be a Democrat today. I am surprised that you are such a Gore supporter.I guess you forgive him for starting the DLC? I realize he is no longer a member but my point is it is as silly as holding Teresa's prior party affiliation against her.

I saw Senator Kerry in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today. It was back. That nice passion that I saw at those speeches at Faneuil Hall last year when he talked about the Iraq War and his sense that this is an immoral and unnecessary war. That passion was back. I think I missed that in the last couple of months. I believe that when this particular man is at his best, he has this passion. He will need that passion. This war must end and Senator Kerry has a part to play in making that happen. It could well be that doing that and running for President are mutually exclusive states. If that is so, then he has chosen for country and for patriotism and I applaud him for having the courage to do so.

So now, as in 1971, we are engaged in another fight to live the truth and make our own government accountable. As in 1971, this is another moment when American patriotism demands more dissent and less complacency in the face of bland assurances from those in power.

We must insist now that patriotism does not belong to those who defend a President’s position—it belongs to those who defend their country. Patriotism is not love of power; it is love of country. And sometimes loving your country demands you must tell the truth to power. This is one of those times.

Sen. Kerry, April 22, 2006, Faneuil Hall, Boston, MAssachusetts
http://www.american.edu/media/speeches/Kerry.htm

I highly recommend watching that SFRC hearing. It will explain more about why the good Senator from Massachusetts is not running for President than any thing else. (And see Sen. Webb's follow up comments. These are people united and divided by a common and uncommon past and that says a lot about this situation.)

Senator, sir, go get 'em. Tell them these words again and again and again. They are true and they are worth saying:

It is immoral for old men to send young Americans to fight and die in a conflict without a strategy that can work – on a mission that has not weakened terrorism but worsened it.

It is immoral to lie about progress in that war to get through a news cycle or an election.

It is immoral to treat 9/11 as a political pawn – and to continue to excuse the invasion of Iraq by exploiting the 3,000 mothers and fathers, sons and daughters who were lost that day. They were attacked and killed not by Saddam Hussein but by Osama bin Laden.

And it is deeply immoral to compare a majority of Americans who oppose a failing policy and seek a winning one to appeasers of Fascism and Naziism.

Sen. Kerry, Spet 9, 2006. Faneuil Hall, Boston, Massachusetts.

Go get 'em. Tell them this truth again sir. It is indeed the highest form of love of country. Help set this country on the path again to be a good and moral nation. That would be the highest and most honorable of all patriotic acts that any of us could do at this time.

Although he wasn't my first choice, I have a lot of respect for Senator Kerry. I voted for him in 04, and if he would have been our nominee, I would have voted for him again. He will continue to do a tremendous job serving his state and our country as a leader of our party and in the Senate. We're lucky to have him in our party.

Ours is that we will see Kerry unleashed in the Senate from here on out--no need for constraint at all, if he ever did feel constrained. He could become Ted Kennedy's successor as the Lion of the Senate. I'm sure he'll have that seat as long as he wants it.

Edited on Wed Jan-24-07 03:21 PM by Major Hogwash
I have no idea what he's thinking these days.

Maybe he thought if he ran again, it would be a distraction to Bush's impeachment.

It's quite obvious from watching Bush's SOTU speech last night that Bush has no intention of trying to win the peace in Iraq - that he's just going to keep the troops there to keep the money flowing to the warmongering corporations that are making beaucoup bucks in this fiasco war.

Bush mentioned 9/11, Al Queda and Iraq in the same sentence again last night.
He's obviously going to repeat that lie until he is removed from office.

Constitutional crisis?

Yeah, but it was also a constitutional crisis when Kerry had the 2004 election stolen from him.
