Is the United States in the middle of a Civil Cold War?
cold war
–noun
1. intense economic, political, military, and ideological rivalry between nations, short of military conflict; sustained hostile political policies and an atmosphere of strain between opposed countries.
2. a continuing state of resentful antagonism between two parties short of open hostility or violence.
3. a state of political tension and military rivalry between nations that stops short of full-scale war
4. a state of rivalry and tension between two factions, groups, or individuals that stops short of open, violent confrontation.

civil war
–noun
a war between political factions or regions within the same country.

I am not sure.
But it occurred to me that since a Cold War is a non-shooting war, the USA might just be in the middle of a Civil Cold War, Liberals vs Conservatives.

2. Yes

...I think on some level we are. Some more than others.

For me, if at all possible I will only shop at blue stores. I'll go out of my way or go without if it means supporting say a Wal-Mart. However some of my close friends pay no attention to politics and think I'm crazy....others are just as hardcore on things as I am.

Cheers

4. Interesting concept!
We'll have to watch what happens this next couple of years to see if it is born out in reality.

5. war over
I think, rather that we're toward the end of said civil cold war. Our military has been drained, we're in hock up to our eyeballs; the balance sheet for the Third Reich's 1944 annual report probably looks better than ours. All that's left is to pay the bills, rebuild and recover.

7. Cold Civil War, and you're not the first to say so...
the people on the other side said this long ago. I remember reading an article about a Cold Civil War on Townhall.com (a conservative website, which I had no clue was conservative until I started reading it.)

8. And to think of it, it has happened before...
I think the '60s counted. We're in a war where the only real fight is with soft power, and we're the ones on the side trying to fix some inherit injustices in our system, like woman and African Americans did in the '60s. This time it is equal rights for the GLBT community, economic equality, and self control.

9. And the number of nutty violent people may eventually turn this...
into some type of shooting conflict between the extremists on both sides. The first thing which comes to mind would be the Tax nuts up in NH currently in a type of quasi-standoff.
