Gore backstage at Oscars, says he's not a candidate in '08
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 02:14 AM by villager
From Variety's late-night "Backstage at the Oscars" dispatch:

Though the producers and the director of "An Inconvenient Truth" accompanied him backstage, questions focused on Al Gore and climate change, not on the film. Asked about his "rock star" reception from auds, he said, "William Hung was a rock star. I just give a slideshow."

Gore, who reiterated that he is not a candidate for the presidency in 2008, said, "I really hope the decision by the Academy to recognize ("An Inconvenient Truth") will convince people who did not go to see it before to go see the movie and learn about the climate crisis and then become part of the solution."

He saluted the Academy for "going green" this year and said "this industry has been among the real leaders in American society about being among those to step up and address this crisis."

"I'm starting to believe in miracles," said director Davis Guggenheim, himself the son of an Oscar-winning docu helmer. He said that before he left for the Kodak, he held one of his late dad's Oscars, earned for a film on Robert Kennedy. Guggenheim said he went back to what his father said: "Every movie is personal, no matter what it is." So by focusing the film on Al Gore's personal journey, "I was stealing from my father's playbook."

The group was just leaving the room when Melissa Etheridge's win was announced. Gore stepped to the middle of the room to watch on a monitor with his arm around Laurie David, pumping his fist in the air and beaming.

6. I really don't think he's going to run. He did a GREAT JOB on his
movie, and he seems to be doing what he really loves. I can't blame him for not wanting to get back into the disgusting, dirty mess of politics, and I often wonder why ANYONE would want to put themselves through the torture of a Presidential Canidacy. I understand why a lot of you want him to run in 08, and that you just don't like any of the candidates so far, but I think you should start paying attention to those who ARE running, because you'll have a decision to make in a little over a year from now, andGore isn't going to be an option.

I think that's the problem some people have with the whole thing.

No. We want HIM to run, and he MAY run.

You're saying we need to pick from the available, announced candidates- NOW? Pfffft. It's February of 2007. I'm sure even us pea-brained recalcitrant deluded Gore folks will manage to find the time to figure out who to vote for in an election that is 21 months away.

The HillaryObamaEdwards Bandwagons aren't automatically entitled to our support at this time, sorry- and no amount of petulant foot-stomping is going to change that.

9. One way
if the primary gets too nasty, and Hillary, Obama, don't have enough delegates, they can draft Gore from the floor.

10. What was that Kurt Vonnegut book - where the person selected as president
was selected for their outstanding qualifications, one of which was that they didn't want to be President. It was a duty much like jury duty.

12. The Neocons have threatened and wreaked havoc on him and his families life for long enough
Gore deserves his place in the White House. It would take American citizens mobilizing and protecting him to be put safely in place, or the Bush Co would do everything to derail such a right.

Until we confront the bullies, we will never have the leadership we so desperately need in this country.

They killed JFK and when they got away with that, they kept going.

So what are Americans willing to do about the killing of our best leaders by those in our own government?

13. Good question -- we let them kill leaders and rig elections in broad daylight
No wonder they've become so arrogant...

14. If Gore really wants to effect change for Global Warming,
the place to do it from is the White House... I see him having all the power he needs to effect change.. It is the one thing in his life left undone, and I believe he will go for it...

That is just this dog's humble opinion.....
