Question Time

I know everyone knows about question time in the British Parliament, I always thought this would be a good idea in US politics. It would help make the president more accountable to Congress. I would like to know what others thought about this.

1. Sadly, I'm afraid it wouldn't work here

Our offices of chief of state and head of government are combined in one person. A prime minister is a head of government only; as such, her or she can be questioned (even harshly) in parliament without offending the dignity of the office of chief of state. To summon the Chief Executive to a weekly session of congress for a grilling would violate the separation of powers as outlined in our Constitution. We'd all love to see B*shit raked over the coals by a Democratic congress, but someday soon (please, God) there's going to be a Democrat gracing the Oval Office with his or her presence, and the honor and dignity of the presidency will be restored. It's not perfect, but it's the system we're stuck with. :hi:

2. Well, Bush can only handle "Question Time" after

Snack Time and Nap Time, so until we get a new president it won't work.
