2. My fervent hope is that when he wins, he says,
"At least the votes counted this time."

If he announced during that speech, I'm sure the place would go NUTS!!! (Oh, I'm letting my fantasies run amok for a minute and wouldn't that be COOOOOOOL?)

9. Gore has too much respect for Laurie David, Laurence Bender, Davis
Guggenheim and the other producers to overshadow their night in the spotlight. And, he will not be given an award — only the producers and director.

12. I hope that he does not do that.
He should wait for a year. All the other candidates will have been bled dry by then by the RWing Sabotage Squads.

17. Plus, I don't think he would want to conflate the subject matter with...
...a presidential race when he's trying to make the point that global warming isn't a political issue. If he ever decides to run critics will say he used the documentary for political gain anyway, but announcing at the Oscars would be inviting that criticism. However, I think it's worth the risk later this year if it looks like he has a very good shot at the presidency where he can do the most good for the cause (IMO).

19. Gore said, when asked to attend, that he's thinking about it.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/awa...

"I was 100 percent certain we weren't going to get nominated," said "An Inconvenient Truth" director Davis Guggenheim, whose film picked up two Oscar nominations Tuesday, for best documentary and best song. Despite stellar reviews and big boxoffice, he noted that the Paramount Vantage film missed key nominations, including the DGA, "so I didn't think the documentary branch would go for it."

Then again, Guggenheim on Tuesday pointed to "a series of small miracles" that began even before his feature's Sundance Film Festival world premiere a year ago.

—snipped—

Soon, the film seemed to take on a life of its own. "It was really like a wildfire," Guggenheim said. "My father-in-law called me one day and said, 'Fifty churches in Maine are showing your film tonight.' "

Al Gore came to Sundance last year to promote the film, and he might just show up on Oscar night. "I had a nice talk with Al. I said. 'Are you ready to go to the show?' He said, 'I'll think about it,' " Guggenheim said, laughing.

10. AIT's Oscar chances...
What criteria are used to determine best documentary? I don't know if there are several measures they are graded by or if each member of the academy just picks their favorite, but if social significance is involved at all I don't know how An Inconvenient Truth could lose.

Of course, I haven't seen any of the other nominations so my opinion is pretty worthless I guess...can anyone compare AIT to any of the these other nominated docs?

“Deliver Us from Evil” (Lionsgate)
“Iraq in Fragments” (Typecast Releasing)
“Jesus Camp” (Magnolia Pictures)
“My Country, My Country” (Zeitgeist Films)

14. The documentary award is judged by a special panel (and not by the general
membership of the Academy).

"Deliver Us From Evil" won the NY Film Critics award, and "Iraq in Fragments" has also been honored.

11. Only, he's not up for an Oscar
Davis Guggenheim, the director, is up for one. So is Melissa Ethridge for the theme song.

21. Cool, thanks. I thought it was just the director
What's that line from "Wag the Dog"? "When you're a director, you have the picture. When you're a writer, you have the script. When you're a producer, all you get is the credit!"

even if he just said, "by the way, I care so much about this issue that I'm giving careful thought of running for president again."

nevermind, apparently he isn't nominated himself, but it was a nice thought.
