Spy cameras to watch you in your own living room. WTF?
Jesus H' Christ! What fucking planet is this?

If you have some tinfoil handy, now might be a good time to fashion a hat. At the Digital Living Room conference today, Gerard Kunkel, Comcast’s senior VP of user experience, told me the cable company is experimenting with different camera technologies built into devices so it can know who’s in your living room.

2. I don't keep a television in my living room
and if they want to see what goes on in my bedroom, they can pay for it.

3. it won't happen
Consumers would not let it happen, it's too outrageous. Too much of an invasion of privacy.

But Kunkel and the other geniuses who came up with that idea need to be fired!

5. no way
I can see walking into the living room in the morning and the tv turns itself on and says "Hey angrycarpenter, wanna buy some power tools? Or how about some viagra."

I am not a parent but if the tv turns itself off in the middle of a R rated movie just because a kid happens to come into the room it is treating all of us like children.

6. you think that's bad
How about a bracelet that they want you to wear on the airplane and that will allow the stewardess to zap you at will?

True story. I saw it on Boing-boing.

7. Preparation...
for the ultimate takeover. Take a look at what one blogger wrote at that site:

<…> Before you start freaking out, hold on. They just wanna know who’s in your living room. That’s all. It’s for a really cool features, really! When you turn on your TV, the box will recognize you and manufacture recommendations or pull up shows in your profile. Still not sold? Well, whether it detects kiddies in the room, parental controls will pop up to block naughty composition. Oh yeah, and it’ll serve up custom ads, just for you. Awesome-o, right? Well, don’t get too excited, it’s still in examining. <…>

Can't see the forest because a tree is in the way. :eyes:

12. You got that right
and I wonder what he'll think when child protective services show up at his house because he's been allowing his kids to watch R-rated movies.

Isn't amazing how some people are so sheep like.

Peace Donkeykick and stay safe...

9. Who has time to watch the videos?
Anyway, it might be useful for homeowners if they have suspicions. Like most technologies, it's not all dangerous.

10. Here's another thread that was about this.
I cannot understand why anyone would want this. It gives me the creeps. Combine that with this, and 1984 seems not so fictional.

16. For the person that thinks you can put a piece of tape over the camera...
The same camera also reads the ir from the remote, so the box won't work.
I agree, this technology is too invasive. I'll decide What I want, not some pre-programed silicon brainiac.

18. Here's a related article...Be on the lookout for “Minority Report” two-way ads

No need to wait. The technology already exists for interactive advertisements, which will see you, and make offers based on what they think about you. Hotels will feature the displays, from Samsung, in their lobbies this year.

Interactive advertising: A good thing?
Soon, a large advertising display will detect your round-shouldered frame several yards away, and offer you a coupon for a caffeinated pick-me-up. (That, or the display will see that you are about to take a swing at it, and call the cops.)
