A Class Divided, a study in discrimination
"One day in 1968, shortly after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., a teacher in a small, all-white Iowa town divided her third grade class into blue-eyed and brown-eyed groups and gave them a daring lesson in discrimination."

I watched the video of this many years ago and it had a profound affect in how I looked at the rights of others and what discrimination really is.

The issue of discrimination and equal rights is certainly as relevant today as they were in 1968 as is this program, imo. One of the more predominant issues of equal rights today are those of the minority GLBT community and, to me, this program is relevant to that question as it is to racism, discrimination is discrimination and is destructive, both from within and without, imo.

I hope DUers will take some time to watche this program, if you have not seen it, it is a MUST-WATCH, imo.

this film should be shown in the schools yet. Very poignant and thought provoking study in bigotry.

2. Thanks, blondie58, for watching it....
I, too, think it should be mandatory somewhere in the curriculum. I saw it as an adult and, as I posted in my OP, it cause a profound change in my thinking. I cannot see where it would not be a very valuable teaching tool for teachers and an invaluable lesson for students as well.

3. I didn't realize anyone *hadn't* seen it - maybe it's a generational thing.

4. I don't know if it is generation but I am surprised by how many
people, when I mention this program, have never heard of it or the video.
