You Lost...
"And yet, as the situation continues to deteriorate both for Iraqis inside and outside of Iraq, and for Americans inside Iraq, Americans in America are still debating on the state of the war and occupation- are they winning or losing? Is it better or worse.

Let me clear it up for any moron with lingering doubts: It’s worse. It’s over. You lost. You lost the day your tanks rolled into Baghdad to the cheers of your imported, American-trained monkeys. You lost every single family whose home your soldiers violated. You lost every sane, red-blooded Iraqi when the Abu Ghraib pictures came out and verified your atrocities behind prison walls as well as the ones we see in our streets. You lost when you brought murderers, looters, gangsters and militia heads to power and hailed them as Iraq’s first democratic government. You lost when a gruesome execution was dubbed your biggest accomplishment. You lost the respect and reputation you once had. You lost more than 3000 troops. That is what you lost America. I hope the oil, at least, made it worthwhile."

7. We should all read this.
Read the rest of her blog too. I'm personally surprised that Riverbend is still alive. I expect her to be killed by the death squads any day. America hates the truth.

9. No, the oil does not make it worthwhile,
since the people paying for it (the regular people of the US and Iraq, with their lives) are not the people who are benefiting from it. What a gulf there is between the regular people and the corporatocracy. I'm no historian, but I suspect this is the worst it's ever been.

This is going to sound disconnected (it's not!), but we desperately need public campaign financing. It's obscene what a few hundred thousand dollars of campaign contributions can buy. From a strictly dollar-for-dollar standpoint, it's the best investment out there.

I so agree with your comment on how few dollars it takes to buy
perks from those on the Hill. They talk about $100,000. (for example) like it is a large amount. Make it a half a million. That is nothing compare to contracts that are passed out to those people. Those same people that get contract then begin to really make the big bucks via our taxes. No oversight as to where the $$ went. It is disgusting and unbelievable. We Americans are chumps. We, the tax payers and voting public have been used and abused and most don't have a clue as to what the bushies and some Dems have sold their soul for.

Well, the people of Iraq and Afghanistan and our dear troops know.......

18. it may have been worse in the days of Standard Oil
and the Robber Barons, but I couldn't find any stats on the Google to back that claim up just now. But hey , if Bill O'Reilly can just make stuff up that sounds right then so can I.

13. This wasn't even the main subject of her post
Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 09:47 AM by Canuckistanian
The main subject was the brutal rape of a woman by Iraqi police members while she was in custody.

Maliki not only denied the rapes had taken place, but rewarded the officers in question, made them his heroes.

The same Iraqis that were hailed as the "shining example of democracy" in the Middle East.

16. well said! From an American perspective, I am in no way above mentioning the $$$
that it cost, since its such a profound amount...like $30,000 per Iraqi or millions for each soldier there.

17. We also lost our rank in terms of the well-being of our children
We're ranked 20th out of 21 western industrial countries, the worst country, along with the UK, in which to be a child.

20. This fact has not got through to the 38%
the morons believe that the Iraq 'conquest' is only part of the 'war on terror' and that it has to be continued until all fanatical Muslims are killed and then we will all be safe. What they don't know is that we do not have the resources for a global world take over and we certainly don't have the support of many nations.

22. I rarely dispute things with Riverbend - But what Oil??
Not only do I not usually dispute her, And I treasure the one email she has sent when I queried her about a specific set of murders in Iraq - But the Oil?

The last that I heard, the only oil pipeline established with anything approaching freely flowing oil goes to Israel.

We may have fought there for Oil - but let's face it - even that has not materialized.

If things ever settle down over there, we get the oil.

So much for establishing "democracy" in an "independent" nation
