SCALIA Re: BUSH vs GORE: "Stop Rehashing The Decision-GET OVER IT"
NEW ROCHELLE - Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia defended the court's decision to halt the Florida recount in the 2000 presidential election and even joked yesterday that it was time for people to "get over it."

During an appearance at Iona College, Scalia said Florida's handling of the recount, which was the key to determining whether Republican George W. Bush or Democrat Al Gore became president, was a clear violation of the Constitution's guarantee of equal protection under the law.

...

"The whole world was laughing at the world's greatest democracy," Scalia said "They could not complete an election."

Scalia's comments about perhaps the most controversial decision of his tenure came during a brief question-and-answer period that followed his half-hour speech. He let it be known that it's time for people to stop rehashing the decision.

"It's water over the deck - get over it," Scalia said, eliciting a loud burst of laughter from the audience.

6. The shrub was selected, not elected.
The Constitution should be obeyed. It has the authority. Scalia is a partisan hack.

5. F you, Scalia.
It's because we are (were?) the world's greatest democracy that the election was in question. PROOF THAT THE SYSTEM WORKED.

That is, until you stuck your fat f*ck nose in where it didn't belong.

7. How apt ...

"It's water over the deck ..." Yeah, just like the water that spilled over the deck as the Titanic went down.

Only this time, it was the good ship Democracy.

9. Sorry, Fat Tony. You're never going to live this one down.
That decision will rightfully haunt you for the rest of your life. You deserve every bit of criticism and scorn you've worked so hard to garner.

That's something you'll never overcome. Get used to it.

Was he perhaps thinking of the Titanic when he said that? Because it sure feels like that's the ship we're sailing on these days, thanks to Scalia, et al.

28. Sorry you lost your water on the deck, Tony. Try Depends.
Y'a ole geezer.

This is supposed to be a fair and impartial administer of justice who uses a great consitutional crises as fodder for his on the road show.

Maybe he's so busy in his task of rearranging the deck chairs on this Titanic wreck our government has become under bush the lesser that he's mixing his metaphors.

20. Don't law students routinely study previous decisions?
Why should they stop looking at one of the worst decisions made in the history
of the Supreme Court, just because one of those "Justices" responsible for it
says we should?

I didn't realize there was a statute of limitations on treason.

23. What else can you expect
from a man so drunk on power that he actually had the audacity to say that “Mere factual innocence is no reason not to carry out a death sentence properly reached”

In other words, the "mere fact" that a person is innocent wouldn't stop fat Tony from giving the lethal injection himself. These are the words of a sociopath, which is probably why he thinks it was ok to give fellow sociopath Dubya the presidency.

25. Can a Supreme be impeached?
I think there is enough evidence that Scalia was derelict in his duties back in 2000...

I think it was Thom Hartmann on yesterday's show who said that the most pressing action facing us is that we must STOP or slow down this president As Soon As Possible!!! ...Thom subscribed to John Dean's premise of starting impeachment processes against other members of the cabinet, specifically Alberto Gonzales... I'd truly like to see Scalia added to that list... and as Fitzgerald's case against Cheney takes shape, one can only hope for justice there...

kicking the legs out from under the bushco pretzeldency using the impeachment process, combined with non-binding and other resolutions coming from the House and Senate, might slow down this headlong rush into the wall...

26. I think Sandra Day O'Connor realized she'd shit on her legacy after Bush v. Gore
She will always be remembered not only as the first woman Supreme Court Justice, but as the one that helped flush Democracy down the drain in the United States. She knows it. That will always follow her.

Tarnished, Sandy. Forever in history, there will be a black mark by your name.
