I didn't know about the tornado though.

22. "It" was more of a "they"!

It/they was/were a doozy. Just when it seemed like the worst was over it would start up again full force. It went on like that for hours and hours. They were not kidding about the "severe" label.

I'm surprised the Media Hoos didn't dub it "The Storm of the CENTURY" like they do every other storm.

6. It's south of here

We have had rain and hail all evening. The tornado was in a rural area south of here. But I think it was just a warning. Now they are issuing flash flood warnings.

16. The whole state is in 'tornado alley' (we're in a -watch- right now)

but oddly the bad weather other than that ice storm which centered on our county has generally gone further to the east. So far. It's 66F outside right now...unusually warm for end of Feb. I'm thinking we might have a lot of nasty wx this spring.

21. Hey, I grew up in OKC

and I remember a few bad ones back in the day. I remember spending time in the interior hallway at my parents house because of tornadoes in the area. My mom would herd us in there with a radio and wait until the storms passed. We were very lucky. IIRC, the most damage we ever had was shingles torn from our roof. Although once, my sister was opening windows (remember when they talked about opening windows to avoid implosionsI and lightning struck the tree outside the window. It shot down the tree and into the house. My sister was saved by the headboard on her bed. It cracked the headboard in half and there were wisps of smoke coming from it. So, my childhood and seeing tornadoes is one of the reasons I got interested in the environment. It started out with trying to understand why Oklahoma was in tornado alley and my interest really got sparked when I read Frank Laine's "Unusual Weather" back in the late 70's. BTW, I've got three dogs and they are all rescues. One of them is a survivor of the Moore tornado about 8 - 9 years ago.

Oklahoma seems to get a lot more ice storms than when I was growing up. In the 60's and 70's, when I lived there, I remember snow. In the 80's and 90's it seems like ice storms replaced the snow. Now the ice storms are just getting worse in intensity.

20. Well, I don't know Bryan Busby but I know tornados. I've been

a storm spotter, a meteorology teacher in the Air Force and a commercial pilot all for over 40 years and I've seen dozens of tornados "up close and personal"...and I can give you my guarantee that it's
not only possible, it's typical for them to be smack in the middle of a downpour. Actually, that's precisely the situation that's at work when people are most likely to be hurt or killed...they don't hear it -because- of the heavy precipitation. I'm not saying this to be contrary, and I hope you believe me on this.

Edit: I read the puff=piece from your link which sorry to say doesn't impress me very much.
St.L.U. isn't very high on my list of impressive examples of academia.
