Dan Wasserman nails it on Hillary Clinton

*THIS* is precisely why she should be ineligible to be our
standard-bearer for 2008: she's far too willing to compromise
principles for political advantage and her entire tenure in
the public eye has shown this.

1. No, he obviously did not hear/read her statement upon making the vote OR...
her subsequent comments shortly thereafter that were critical of the war while it was still popular.

I'm not a big Hillary fan, but she's getting a bum wrap on this and so many people are falling for conservative spin.

4. I heard her just fine..
... hedging her bets all along the way like a true politician.

I've heard her all along the way and her general position has NEVER been really against the war, merely whining that it was mismanaged. Sort of like a Republican.

3. That is why I will not vote for any candidate who got us into this mess.
Clinton, Edwards, Biden, Dodd and the rest made the calculation that it would be better politically to support the then popular Bush than to oppose him.

Like John Kerry has been quoted as saying in a rare moment of honesty: "I didn't think they would fuck it up so bad"

That was way back in 2004 when the notion that invading Iraq had made us less, not more safe was a strange enough notion to help torpedo Howard Dean's campaign. Now that things have really gone to hell in a handbasket, all of these former war supporters have seen the error of their ways. They are, with the exception of Senator Clinton, all very, very sorry.

I'm not buying it. You guys were elected to represent the people, to find out the facts--not to bury your heads in the sand and hope that the war would be fast and clean so it would not come back to bite you. You had your chance and you failed in the most serious and grave matter that a United States Senator can vote on. You gave a reckless and incompetent president a blank check to go to war wherever and whenever he felt like and I cannot forgive you.

I will support a candidate who did not vote for the Iraq War Resolution in the Democratic primaries. If one of these Senators who voted to get us into this mess ends up being the Democratic nominee I will hold my nose and vote for him or her in the general election. Hopefully it won't come to that.

5. Well, that goes for any candidate who voted for the war...
and is now going around saying it was a mistake. Hillary isn't the only one saying this.

I'll say it: *NO ONE* who supported handing Bush his war
should be our standard-bearer in 2008.

Choose one -- War-supporters were either:

o Making a crass political calculation that supporting
the war would be good for their careers and opposing
the war death to their careers, or...

o Too stupid or too unenquiring to be qualified.

Contrary to the suggestion in .1, the Tesha family
isn't uninformed on Hillary's shenanigans. We donated
substantial money to her campaign in 2000 so, after
that, we paid attention to whether we were getting
our money's worth. And on nearly every vote that
mattered, from handing Bush unlimited power to
making political hay on flag-burning, our money
was wasted; we might as well have supported Al
Damato 'cause Hillary did the same things he
would have done.

So now we're done supporting Hillary.

10. Oh hillary definetly thought
it was going to be popular when she signed her soul away. Lots of people did and then there were those who voted their conscience.

I knew it wasn't going to be any good because it was started for all the wrong reasons. Who the hell couldn't see that?
