1. Please put a graphic warning in your header
That being said...I wonder how many "insurgents" this dead child just converted.
Very very sad. We mourn for weeks over one dead model when dead children are a daily occurrence in the life of the Iraqi's.

11. I'd like to say I'm sorry, but I'm can't.
No. I would not, and I will not. It is not my intention to upset someone's morning breakfast, but the unwillingness to view "graphic images" is part of the problem.

A news executive would'nt put this on the T.V. Too Graphic.

Well, tough shit. Some parents actually have to see the real thing, with their own real kids, everyday. Because us Americans don't like to be upset, 99% won't see pictures like this.

Well, we need to see pictures like this. If this picture was on the T.V. as much as say, Anna Nicole, the war would be over tommorrow.

I wish I could apolgize for such a graphic image, but I will not.

14. Well just for DU etiquette
That is what WE do here.
WE are fully aware of the damage this administration has caused and WE should know we are going to look at a bloody body before we open the post.
If you want the shock value...go post it somewhere else.
WE know what is being done in our name.

19. Hold on!
Shock value?!? With all due respect, are you fucking kidding me? "Go post it somewhere else?"

Sir/madam, I'd buy every fucking billboard in the country and plaster this Photo on every damn one of 'em if I could.

I put this picture up because when I first saw it on Pottersville, I thought immediately of my own children.

I know what happens in a war, as do you, but knowing and being confronted with an image like this are two very different things, as I'm sure you would agree.

I'm not going to get into some kind of flame war with you. I put up no warning, because, first, it did'nt occur to me to do so, second, I would'nt have even if it did. Does being warned make this picture any less horrific? When I entitled the post "dead child" did you expect a bunny or lollipop? Swallow your pride with arguing on the rightness or wrongness of my posting etiquette. Save your outrage for the selfish, arrogant monster who made this picture happen.

20. Please don't lecture me
There are MANY DU'ers who have suffered different forms of trauma and have posted that they just CAN'T look at one more picture.
I'm a trauma nurse for God's sake. This doesn't shock me.
You are preaching to the wrong audience.
When I saw "Dead Child"...I have no idea what to expect. I didn't expect the picture of a bloody child because there wasn't a "Graphic" warning.
This is just how we do it here. I tried to be friendly with it. You take it a different direction. That is your choice.
If you wish to upset people here that isn't my call to make.
I have my outrage in the right places--but thanks for your concern.

If someone is offended or shocked, they SHOULD be. They need this.

BTW: Sorry, one of your first posts to this board was met with what amounts to pressure to conform. The DU isn't really like that.

Welcome and Thanks.

It is a community and someone should have the right to look at graphic pictures...or not. That is why *most* people label them.

44. What could be more graphic than the title, DEAD CHILD?
Click at your own risk.

IMO, this is the dose of reality that many of us (generic "us," before you jump my shit) in this country need. If it woke up just one or two who think of war as a "sanitary" process, then it has served a purpose. Sometimes we all need a smack of reality across the face.

40. "Graphic warning" carries
a visual reference. IMHO this thread should indicate its graphic visual content. Perhaps you don't know anyone who has PTSD symptoms that could be triggered by such a visual depiction. I do. And it is the visual nature of the content that is the trigger.

12. Every Americans should be FORCED to see pictures like this everyday.
The American people should be FORCED to, at the very least, view what they have allowed to take place. This child's death and the thousands and thousands of other children's' death is murder. Pure and simple. Murder. And if we are going to FORCE justice on this country of ours, we need to build more prisons.

And welcome to DU...

30. Viewing the realities of the WAR FOR PROFIT that we allowed to happen
is not, in my opinion "propaganda". You can call reality "propaganda" if you wish, but if the American people are going to blithely pay for killing children in foreign countries, I don't think it is impinging on their "liberty" to require that they take responsibility for what they are financing. If your money is paying for the killing of innocent civilians, fuck your "freedom of choice", you should be forced to account for it. And make no mistake, we will, all of us, be forced to account before this is over...

15. And one wonders why they hate us. Face it is is not our freedom
or our way of life it is what we do and what we do to these Muslims countries. Could any one in this country see a Middle East country do to us what we have done to them and not say they would not try to blow up someone? We would have to be fools to think that we would not do the same. As it is now we have invaded two countries, controls most of the others in the Middle East with our money and half baked rulers that will do as we want and we are fools enough to wonder what is wrong. Does any one n this site really think we are going to win in Afghanistan? Dream on.Take their land and kill their children with not win hearts and minds believe me. Why can't Bush see that?

16. Not our fault.
That's what millions and millions of Americans think when they look at that picture, "They're doing it to themselves."

Aside from the children that we did directly kill, what can we do about how people are thinking about dead Muslim children now? Each of us must figure out what we can do to change the way these people think.

17. "I want to bring freedom to the Iraqi people....." words
Edited on Thu Mar-01-07 09:43 AM by LibDemAlways
spoken by a 17-year-old Marine recruit at the funeral of a 20-year-old Marine from my town recently. I'd suggest to these kids that the Iraqi people neither need nor want our brand of "freedom" delivered with bombs and guns and doors busted down in the night, the kind that has given rise to a vicious, bloody determined effort to remove us, the kind that has lead to carnage between ancient factions, no longer constrained by their government.

That the military is still successfully selling this snake oil to naive high schoolers is amazing; but then again, how would the kids know since the "freedom" they want to bring to the Iraqis no longer exists in the corporate press here in the "homeland."

22. This needs a warning that it is graphic - Why you ask
because it is a troubling image that could serve as a trigger for anyone who suffers from post traumatic stress disorder. That would include not just folks with combat experience but potentially anyone who has observed the sudden and violent death of a child. That could include a whole bunch of first responders, parents, siblings, and other family and frends.

32. NEEDS GRAPHIC WARNING. And I'm so sick of this crap.
If modern war technology has become so "advanced" that we can just kill EVERYONE willy-nilly, and not discriminate small children and toddlers from the people against which we're actually fighting, then our technical solutions to modern warfare just aren't working anymore. War used to work great when the technology demanded that two warring countries line up in two ordered, easily identified formations and have at it with their relatively primitive firearms and artillery. Unfortunately, those days are long gone. We no longer know who the enemy is and we just use our cruise missiles and air strikes to kill whomever, in the meantime hoping that we also get the people who want to--and can-kill us.

It's way past time to reinvestigate DIPLOMACY, and using our modern science to give all parties who are at odds some way of benefiting from the experience of negotiating. I'm tired of seeing poor, innocent kids being brutally murdered for rich and powerful people's profit motives.
