"...and ALL of them were civilians."
These were the words of an Iraqi ER physician describing the aftermath of the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq in the documentary "Why We Fight." Juxtaposed with images of a confident Donald Rumsfeld boasting about super-accurate weapons "never before seen in history," the doctor explains how children, women, and men - all civilians - were the ones who felt the brunt of U.S. weapons of war.

Not shown in the movie, however, I do recall other instances where Rumsfeld stood behind that podium, endlessly bragging about the "humanity" of this war in that the weapons were 100% accurate to their targets, killing only our enemy and destroying only what needed to be destroyed. Later this was proven to be utterly false as set forth in Why We Fight.

Wow...what have we come to. Dropping bombs on a country who never threatened us and who never possessed WMDs and who was not connected to 9/11 OR international terrorism - and calling it HUMANE. Maybe Orwell was right:

War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is Strength.

1. We all knew that Shock and Awe would target civilians.
That was the stated goal. Our army was going to cause so much damage, so quickly, that is was supposed to demoralize the population. What else could that be but massive civilian death and destruction?

Rumsfeld and the Pentagon essentially announced their plans for mass war-crimes in advance, and all the knee-jerk fake patriots stood behind them and waved their flags.

2. Why We Fight
tells the story of a retired NYPD officer whose son was killed in the towers. He said that #1 for him was always trusting the President. After he heard Bush say Saddam was not responsible for 9/11, the guy became incensed and began questioning everything, including why we were in Iraq.

I recommend this film highly.

7. Didn't you just LOVE John McCain's doubletalk?
He said something like "we should spread democracy around the world, but we should never cross the line into imperialism." DUH!!
:dilemma:  :wtf:

3. Strange, isn't it?
The media are in full-throated baying mode over the allegation that Al Gore, environmental advocate, may have left the light on in the living room. But when that "good, Christian man" George W. Bush orders the "pre-emptive" invasion of another country, squirting lead and depleted uranium, and dropping bombs on people who can't fight back, can't get away, and many of whom don't even realize they're being attacked until the bombs start exploding, nobody asks Mr. Bush which of Jesus' teachings he's following.

Then come the inevitable thumb-suckers in Time, Newsweek, and the National Review wondering why so many people hate the United States, its murderous policies and its imperial military. Gosh, it must be because of all our freedoms, and more than that, liberals' enjoyment of those freedoms.

And people believe it.

5. Absolutely, but who cares?
Hey, I heard Anna Nichole Smith will now be buried in Bermuda...and that poor, poor troubled Brittaney Speares!

As they alluded to in Oliver Stone's JFK, "All fodder for the public to keep them from asking the real questions."

10. The night the bombing of Baghdad started in March 2003
I just sat on the couch watching and weeping. I couldn't NOT think of the death and destruction happening on the ground beneath all those "pretty fireworks". All I could think about was the innocent people being blown to bits while the MSM hacks crowed and cheered about the exciting "shock and awe" campaign.

I can NOT understand the disconnect that is required in order to believe that one can bomb a city and miss the civilians.

I am still weeping.
