Is The Redirection falling through the cracks?
Is it just me? It doesn't seem that anyone has noticed this http://www.newyorker.com/printables/fact/070305fa_fact_hersh .

Maybe I've missed some stuff, but it doesn't look like anyone is talking about it anywhere, here or elsewhere.

What Hersh describes is so important, I just thought there'd be more discussion of what it means.

1. I read every word of this earlier today and got sick to my
stomach!!!!!!!!!
It should be read and passed on by everyone who wants to know what the real facts about this war are.It is so shocking that at first I just couldnt beleive it but I know it is true!!!!!!!!!
I sent it to several people who were also as shocked as I was.
This needs to be sent to everyone who supports this war and this administation. They are murdering criminals

5. There is NO 'war' in Iraq. Other than the civil war we instigated.
What the USA is involved in ain't a war, it's the aftermath of an invasion of a sovereign nation and the ongoing occupation of that country.

4. His comments don't resonate in much of the nation, especially around here
which is one of the reasons I'm so bitter about many issues. Not enough people grasp reality or worse don't give a shit. Hell, even a fair number of DUers obsess over insignificant minutia...as if their concerns actually affect more than a handful of idiots. Bah and humbug. I was savaged for saying
that I thought a hand grenade under the chin of a condemned murderer would be a more "humane" method of execution as opposed to a prolonged suffering from the slow effects of 'lethal injection'. Given a choice, I'd opt for the instantaneous one. There are a lot of hypocrites around here.

7. There are many people here who enjoy pain.
Giving AND Receiving. They get side-tracked into every little opportunity to get involved in a pain dynamic. That's WHY they are here. And it is going to get worse until the primaries are over.

Your point about the hand-grenade, while shocking, does make the point capital punishment makes us no better than the convicted. Kill 'em "nice", kill 'em "bad", we're still killing them.

Have you ever tried to imagine what it would be like to be dying in traumatic circumstances? Your mind would know what is going on, but your body would be all confused . . . horrifying.

I'm not in favor of hand grenades for anything (except armed persons breaking in my front door), but that said, if death is immediately un-avoidable, it's better for it to be instantaneous.

8. Did you get it?
It's probably too big to copy and paste into a message here at the DU. I've never tried such a thing.

I had to underline and take notes to keep the Shia and Sunni regional relationships straight. The article is FULL of facts.

One thing that pretty much bugs me is this issue of more Regional Sunni support (Prince Bandar) making the Sunni in Iraq stronger as opposed to the Shia dominated government, so the deal with Saudi Arabia is prolonging the destabilization of Iraq. Who pays for that? American Blood. That's why I say It's the old "Bait and Switch" routine again. Only this time it is American Blood being waved under the noses of the Sunnis in the region to get them into what's going on, and then through the use of special Sunni operative$$$$$$$$, those Sunni efforts are turned on the Shia instead.

In the news this a.m.: There appears to be a shakedown amongst the Sunni right now, with Sunni on Sunni violence, perhaps between those who want into this deal and those who don't.

Bandar is also funding the Muslim Brotherhood to fight Hezbollah (Shia) in Lebannon for Siniora (Sunni). Once the Muslim Brotherhood gives Lebannon to Bandar/Siniora, the payoff will be Bandar's support of the Muslim Brotherhood in over-throwing Syria, and eventually Egypt. WHAT are we unleashing here? It'll be hundreds of times more unstable than Iraq ever was.

They're also splitting what little support there is for Palestine, by pitting Azbat al-Ansar (Sunnis supporting Palestine) against Hezbollah (Shia supporting Palestine) in Lebannon, so the whole Oil Gang story "We're doing this to bring peace to Israel and Palestine" doesn't wash.
