Unions gets break from Democrats they helped elect
http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/279995,CST-NWS-house02.article

WASHINGTON -- Democrats rewarded organized labor Thursday for helping them retake control of Congress, passing a House bill that would make it easier for workers to start unions against companies' wishes.

The legislation, passed on a nearly party-line vote, would take away the right of employers to demand secret-ballot elections by workers before unions could be recognized. snip

But President Bush will veto the measure if it reaches his desk.

3. Of course, but its ok for Republicans to enact legislation that makes it
nearly impossible for unions to organize and employers are assisted by the NLRB (Republican run). This bill is long overdue. There is probably less than a shadow of a chance that a veto could be overridden but politically it puts Republicans even more at odds with labor and that could help us in 2008.

4. I will likely get flamed...
but this is bad legislation. The act of organizing into a union should only happen through a secret-ballot. The petition process is NOT anonymoun and therefor subject to coercion from either side. I believe once a petition gets the appropriate numbers then the vote SHOULD occur...with rigorous supervison. But there SHOULD be a vote...

5. Good grief, Charlie Brown! Is the Chicago Sun Times a rag paper?
Edited on Fri Mar-02-07 09:39 AM by MasonJar
That headline has one of the most egregious grammar errors I have ever seen in a paper, and it is right there in bold print. Unions, being plural, should have a plural verb form, but gets is singular. Hey, all you Chicago DUers, write LTTEs complaining about the slant of the story and the illiterate headline. That should shut them up.

6. so what
Edited on Fri Mar-02-07 09:58 AM by GTRMAN
Big oil has gotten so much "payback" from Bu$h and the repukes it's pathetic. The workers get one small measure and what the world's coming to an end?

I mean, with the repukes, it's all been about paying back their big contributors. With the Dems, it's about keeping promises to the voters that elected them. And these asshats try to make that look like a bad thing?

:grr:
